Title: Replacement Head Unit for a 97 Omega
Post by: andyiow on 25 July 2008, 11:41:43
My CD changer is starting to play up not reading discs etc , have cleaned the heads a few times but it just does not want to play ball.

I am looking for a replacement that can use the MID.

After a CD/MP3 player, have not got a steering wheel control at all as its currently fitted with a Phillips SC804 and 6 disc changer.

Any recommendations for a make/model would help. Many thanks

Some Sony, Kenwood & Pioneer units will talk to your car.  Think 'Sub display out' is the term you are after.

I only have experience of Pioneer, which have come in about £100 over your budget.  This unit (BT-DEH700) does colour match perfectly, and has built in bluetooth hands free as well.

I have only done it on minifacelift as well, so done the steering controls as well as the MID.  Dont forsee lack of steering controls as a problem, but you never know.

The other problem is space is tight to fit it all in.

Thanks Jimbob, looed at that one and think that the DEH-P7000UB will fit the bill for just a smidge over £170.

Still willing to hear of any other suggestions.

Looks ok (except for the blue illumination)

You will need an adaptor as well to control the MID, not cheap I'm afraid

Not sure I would bother again, you get radio station names, but not cd text / mp3 names.

Is the one I got...I love the colour matching and phone support

Remember that pre minifacelift MIDs (8 digit) and post mini facelift MIDs (10 digit) are different, which may affect adapters needed?

Why not just get a replacement boot changer? Got an sc804 CDC and boot changer for £40 plus postage here...

I was shown a becker unit, so understated it's lovely, totally blends in without looking like mission control at night!
