Steadily driving down the motorway battery light came on dimly and then brightly, temp ok, ac working so not the belt. ::)
Then the abs light came on and the auto gearbox warning light then the clocks went off, car still driving nicely, though had to change gear manually on the auto box. :o
Decided to turn round and come home, gauges on and off and the battery light flashing on and off.
I suspect a loose connection somewhere, any idea’s or where to start looking please.

Check Battery terminals, especially the 0v (earth) side for any heat. If at all warm clean up and check the terminals security, leads can work loose in the fitting.
Check voltage with engine off .. should be around 12.5 v, and again with engine running, should be about 14.5 v
If its not just a poor connection it could be either battery failing or alternator failing ... depends on the results you get from the above checks

Had similar on my last Vectra, turned out to be alternator fault.

Battery terminals are both ok, new battery about a month ago.
12.7v and 14.4v.
Now then, sitting on the drive, the battery light is not coming on though the auto light does and as I slowly increase reves dials stop at 2000, let off and they start again.
At around 1500 rpm hold the throttle and there is a slight hunting of the engine the auto box light and Mid display dim / bright / dim / bright, only by a little, in line with engine hunting. If I turn the headlamps on this stops.
had a fiddle un the fuse box by the battery, the two purple relay's are quite hot after a short period of engine running, is this normal. :question

Had the same sort of fault on my Carlton Diplomat.
Single wire on the rear of the alternator was brocken at the neck of the Lucar connector, snipped it off, crimped a new one on, job sorted.
may not be the case on yours, but would check it. :y

I don't know the 2.0 ltr layout .. but this might help....

There are no "purple" relays listed .. but the "violet" ones [ 10 , 20] are fuel injector/fuel pump relays (on the 3.2 anyway !) .... don't think they should be getting hot .. :(

Checked that, seem to be only two wires a thing black? one and a thick red one, both seem sound. :y

Thanks for the link, had a look again, could be violet :-[ engine seems to be performing well and no eml showing.

Come on guys, need this sorting pdq........... :y

Sounds like a common earth somewhere isn't doing it's job. If all is ok with the lights on, you could get around like that for the moment.
I would be absolutely certain that the smaller wires to the negative battery terminal are good. All of that stuff is low current - so small wires.
You may be able to run a supplementary earth in behind the radio to the body? Going in behind the radio gives you quick access and you are looking to re-earth the clocks. Sorry, can't be more specific there as I don't know my way around well enough.
Good luck.

Sorted, voltage regulator. Alternator and battery bulb replaced, all seems to be working fine. :y
