Title: HID Headlight Failure
Post by: MutantCav on 28 August 2008, 22:08:07
Ok, any thoughts on why both HID headlights could fail at the same time?? Not sure they ever worked since I got the car as never actually tested them and the low fld message is on the MID...checked both lights and one of the headlights had a broken adjuster so replaced it with a good one...still the message comes up...

Only the HID dipped lights are failing to work as both the sidelights and main beams work fine...

Your thoughts please as urgently need to find a solution to get a good man his car back :)

Assuming you've checked bulbs and fuses .. IIRC each HID has a single fuse and they both have a dirty great big one up near the battery .. then the switch cluster can cause this .. had it on my old miggy ... new switch unit ( complete) fixed it

Must admit I did consider the switch and easy to swap over from the breaker to see as would the main fuse...most likely to be something that would affect both lights at same time so big fuse would be next suspect after that then :)

Both lights - usually switch.

For both to fail at the same time.....it can only be the switch

The MID fault is related to the leveling and likely to be a different thing all together!

Check for 12V at the ballast pack feeds to start
