Title: Opel tech2
Post by: Shagma on 06 December 2008, 00:15:50
I have recently purchased a Opel tech 2 device, but I have difficulties with conneting to the Omega '97, perhaps due to the USB emulator. The engine diagnostic is failing all the time, chassis/body gives respond but with many failure signals. It all ends with the software closing..

The software is also in Hungarian/english.
I have installed the software in accordance to the specifications.
Anyone else with the same experience?

Yup, its well known to be a bit hit and miss, esp if usb is involved anywhere.

2 things to remember - the opel tech2 device (hugarian cheapo) is not a tech2, and can cover most models back as far as systems became diagnosable.

The real Tech2 does everything 1997 onwards.  It can also do stuff pre 1997 if the same ecu was used post 1997.  So in case of Omega, real tech2 can do all diagnosable systems except IR central locking, U25DT engine, and pre 1996 2.0l engine

I think you missed out the third one . . .

You are not going to be able to buy a proper tech2 for £20 via fleabay !!

 ;D

Try this software with cheapo tech2 - similar to Opel.com but claimed improved/more English-less Hungarian.

Download rar file from http://www.x1covers.com/1/ABCom-rowl3y-english.rar - you will need something like Winrar to open it & extract files.

Not connecting to ECU not a function of software, rather an issue with usb emulator!!

Agreed, usb is the weak link in the chain and will be buggy at best! Try, try try again is the motto with it!

Oh, I see.. the norwegian supplier of this product sold me an Opel Tech 2 for 800 NOK, about 100Euros.. It was a 10% discount offer. When I complained about the software he "kindly" offered me a more expensive product for just a small fee (about 85Euros) plus transportation costs of returning the old one and for shipping me the new one.. I will kindly rejet this offer.. ;)
I am fully aware that this is a cheap product, and I cant expect too much of it..But I do belive that if the language is partly in Hungarian, and there are unsolved connection problems, this should be mentionted in the order confirmation or on the webpage.
Enough smalltalk, does anyone have a positiv experience of this product at all?  ;D Any tips would be highly appreciated!

Yes - my cheapo tech2 (£20 off ebay) came with hungarian software and has a serial connection.  Used it a few times to read/reset codes - doesn't always connect 1st time - but will always connect eventually - patience is a virtue ;)

My genuine Opel Scanner has no problem working with USB then again it does cost a lot more. I get support and updates with new  features.

Cheapo  version went back for refund.

What engine?  I think the version MDTM modified talked to all Omega Petrol engines, but there are fundamental problems in getting it to work with diesels, so that is never likely to happen.

My car is '97 x20xev engine. I have the USB connection (since I dont have the serial port on my laptop), and I have tried both the original software and the one named "ABCom-rowl3y-english".
On both versions I have routed the tech2 via an emulated COM1 and succesfully comunicate with the ECU on some subjects like ABS system or  central door lock. But I have still not managed to connect to the engine subject. However, on the "ABCom-rowl3y-english" version the software did not fail immediately after some connection attempts. So it's slightly better the original version. There are also a few more options, good too see there are some skilled programmers in this community. :D

Please, PLEASE, let me know if you have a third version of this software.
Unfortunately it didn't help me much googling for this software either....
