The word SAFE without a number to the left of it means that you are attempting to enter a code in the wrong sequence or your ignition is not on. If it is showing a number less than 10 and you cannot enter anything, leave both ignition and radio powered up for up to two hours or until another attempt is allowed as you have to allow the penalty time to reset after entering an incorrect code.

I have a same/similar problem on a 98 Elite 2.5.

I have left the ignition on yet never get the prompt to enter in the CD code.  Is my cd player screwed?

The prompt will only come up after the penalty time has elapsed (max 2 hours) and the correct button sequence is pressed to get to the code entry screen

Vx documentation says up to 640m, which is nearly 11hrs...

Gents, thanks for the replies.

Re the 640 mins is that 640min of the radio turned on all the time or 640 mins radio on/off etc.

last but not least is this a common issue with the cd players?

Never seen that figure quoted before on a Vauxhall unit ?

Still, quite possible I suppose on such a high end unit.

But how are you supposed to leave unit and ignition powered up for 11 hours? I thought that one timed out and powered down long before that?

0-CD SAFE means that all of the ten attempts have been used up and the changer will have to be sent somewhere to be reset.

Which changer do you have? CDC2 Blaupunkt ?

Don't know if you've managed to get this sorted yet, but I had the same problem with my cd changer.  This is what I did:

Ignition on, radio off, press and hold the 'CD' button and then press the 'IO' power button, continue to hold the 'CD' button then it'll beep and allow you to enter the code, press in the big wheel to click 'OK'.

Hope this helps...

Sadly it won`t, as all of his code entry attempts have been used up.

You do not get unlimited goes at this - 10 attempts maximum, and that is reset upon entry of the correct code only if the code is entered before all ten attempts have been used. If you have used all ten attempts, get the cheque book out and give me a yell.
