I have spent the best part of two hours trying to get my car cd radio to keep the bloody code in. EVERY time i turn off the ignition and remove the key the radio loses the code and i get "PANEL" on the dash screen.
Im getting slightly peeved now.. anyone come across this b4? >:(

if there was an after market stereo in the car at one point, then its safe to say the wiring at the back has been altered, the permanent live and ign live will be the wrong way round. pull the stereo out and have a look, if there is a scotch lock or similar then that will confirm.
cheers

i believe you get the word PANEL if the detachable buttons are removed , have you checked it is in place properly and if so are the connections clean?

detatching the panel wouldnt make the stereo need the code re entering when switched back on tho, and to input the code the panel must already be fitted and connecting ok

no you are quite right it does sound like something wired wrong perhaps , but if the loom is ok and it says panel i would suspect head unit u/s ,,,
davednd is the guy you require he runs a stereo repair shop and most likely will know the answer

Has the fascia ever come away from the rest of the unit?
If so, you may find that the fascia connectors on the right hand side of the stereo, as you look a it have their pins not fully engaged.
Little tip - if the fascia comes off, it cannot simply be pushed back into place - remove the deck and push each of the small pins on the edge connector back into position one by one taking care not to bend them.

Lo Dvae.. worked a treat. It appears that some ham fisted morron had had the stereo out in the past.. (i hasten to add it wernt me, i have just aquired the motor!).. and had knackered the cage. So £10 got the code removed until required at a later date and a new cage.. Job sorted
Ta for the help
