Title: Car Radios
Post by: Paul K on 29 January 2009, 09:11:21
Can any one please supply me with the wiring diagram for the 1996 Omega car radio? My car has a Grundig radio out of a Frontera fitted and the CD change is missing. I want to put in my JVC DAB car radio in its place.  :o

You shouldn't need a wiring diagram if the person who fitted the other radio did it properly with an ISO wiring harness!! ;D

You should just be able to unplug one and plug the other one in!

Hi Scottie,
I have bought a ISO Car Audio harness for the JVC to ISO but I can't turn the radio on without have ignition key in position II I would expect to be able to turn it on in position I. Or am I wrong?

If memory serves me correctly ... Vx use 2 wires the wrong way round in their connectors .. so you lose the "memory" function and something else ...

Dave DND will correct me if/when he reads this .. he is the tame ICE expert after all !!!!   :)

Might be worth asking an Admin to move this to ICE ... methinks Dave never moves out of there !!!

Radio should normally work on position I on key. I think Entwood is right and Vx's are wired slightly differently (think they swap the permanent 12V and the ignition 12V wires round). This shouldn't cause the problem that you have though I wouldn't think.

Might be best waiting for/PM'ing Dave DND as he is the expert. :y

1996 models wont let you turn the radio on with the key in postition 1, howerver 97 model onwards do, they changed the setup of the ignition wiring.

You only have two options.

either reverse the yellow and red of the JVC loom, which will then function correctly in the Vauxhall.

Or . . .

If you want to be able to use stereo without keys in ignition, connect red and yellow of JVC loom to red plug in JVC ISO block - problem with this is that you have to remember to turn off when keys are removed, as it will no longer work with ignition.

As far as position I or II with the key, that may depend on setup and configuration of ignition barrel, but not easy to change if it doesn`t perform how you want it to.
