Title: Factory Radio
Post by: Iain on 29 January 2009, 19:24:20
My CD has the CDR2006 unit in it.....

If i got a unit with the multiplay cd built in(cant remember the number)
Is it a simple remove, plug in and refit?

Or is that just wishfull thinking? ;D

You thinking of ones that play MP3 (eg CD30)?  Don't think that plug and play.

ccr2006 is a straight swap, ncdc series needs a new display and a bit of wiring jiggery pokery

Ah ok, sorry but what one is the 2006?
Is that the built in 4 disc changer with the cassette deck?

Im not going to go to the bother of modifying wiring etc, hence why i wondered what was a straight swap.....

Is it going to be any real advantage to change my current 2005 for a CCR 2006?

Only if you want a tape deck and you feel the need for a 4-disc cartridge :)  I don`t know what the 2005 is like but on the 2006 the on/off control knob is a pile of sh*t :P

Thats a common fault on all of them

ccr2006 sounds better imho, and is bose-able should you be that way inclined.

TBH i think i will probably leave it be for now,im happy enough with the way it sounds i just fancied the 4 disc thing but i suppose its just laziness :-[

Possibly a damn sight more reliable - the cd changers fitted to facelifts are particularly troublesome.

Not sure if ccr2006 has better amp, but certainly sounds better than cdr2005 to my ears, though I've only heard a couple of Cdr2005s (although I see a lot of Omegas, I don't get creamed up over car audio, so don't pay a huge amount of attention to them).

Based on the fact that we see one of those for repair to about 50 of the CCR2006 units, spares are still available, the unit appears to be more reliable, and the later Siemens version is virtually bulletproof !

Only fault is the fascia pcb edge connector - and that is caused by nothing more than being heavy handed when you remove it and damaging it.

Seems to be a common problem across all the later Omega radios - NCDC, NCDR, CxR200x...

CD Changer issues aside, do you see many issues with CCR2006?  We know they have suspect, and unavailable, lasers, and a bad case of Alzhiemers....

Not really, Its only ever the CD side that let the model down - but then thats not surprising as Philips never did make reliable Changers !

The rest of the unit seems pretty reliable, the odd audio IC and power regulator, but nothing much - mainly decodes.

Oh, and that edge connector is not just the Omega, its right across the range on every 1990/00`s Vauxhall that had a double din up to around 2004.

Yeah, I have had a few Rovers, I know the Philips changers ain't great  :'(

The NCDR single DIN series also have the same gay setup with that connector, though seem to hold together better (probably as everyone has the right keys to remove them ;D)

Just wishful thinking, mine needed a slight modification to be able to slot straight in.
In answer to is it a better sound.  I've just swapped my CDR2005 for a CCR2006 and yes it is, even my wife noticed that and she knows nowt about cars.

I think i'll keep the 2005 for now and my plan i think (eventually) is to get one of the units that fold out to a small screen, since the dash has the big space for the radio :y
