2.5TD Auto Elite pre facelift
Hello
a little electrical glitch. When the light are turned on, not on side-lights. The headlamps will go to full beam along with a buzzing noise like a short. This usually happens after using the indicators. Moving the stalk will turn off m. beam. The car also has cruise control on the stalk. Is this prob a relay or a dodgy switch? Thanks in advance for for any help or comments?

Most likely the stalk. They can and do fail and normally its the dip/main beam function thats snafu first.
Best buy a new one from the dealer rather than buy someone elses duffer off e-bay.... ;)
-
Sounds like the typical cruise stalk failure. Try to buy new, as 2nd hand ones will soon go the same way.
The 2.5TD cruise stalk is different to all other models.

Thanks for the replies. The phrase 'different to other stalks' fills me with dread 'cos so far as dealers go, unique morphs' neatly into expensive. My concern is I only have one child to sell!!
Thanks

iirc, only a couple of quid more expensive - around the £40ish mark from memory

The bloke my Dad works with managed to get his coat wrapped around the wiper stalk and broke it off, when getting out of his Omega. When he took it to Vauxhall they charged him
£190 :o :o :o

Shows some dealers are thieves. >:(
Edit: I think in the early days they were expensive

Certainly last few petrol ones I've bought have all been about £30+VAT (trade - retail around 10% more).
Most expensive I've bought is Astra-H (which those that know the new style vauxhall stuff will know it only includes the plastic bit - the indicator switch and beam switch is not part of it), around £37

These cars have the 'lane change indictors' - or what ever they call it. You give it a quick flick, and you get three flashes of the indicator. I've driven a Merc that had the same thing. I presume the Astra uses the can-bus electrickery to make it happen, but is it possible to buy clever flasher relays to do the same thing. I just thought it was a good set-up ...... once i'd mastered it ::) :y

I quite like lane changing indicators - originally took me a few hours to get to grips with this, but then I missed them when I jumped back into my car.
Doesn't have to be CANBUS, its just a function of the electronics that drive it.

You'll have to build an add-on upgrade kit Jamie ..... you'll make millions! ;D ;D ;D
