Post by: miniator on 13 February 2009, 15:34:23
Ive been poking about with my new omega this morning and found that the NCDC 2013 has an external source....would this faciliate connecting an ipod up to it?

i have an alpine unit but id prefer to keep the OEM system in place....any help appreciated :)

Pretty sure that the external input is used for SatNav voice and/or TrafficMaster where fitted only, and is Mono only ?

Glad to be proved wrong, as I wouldn't mind hooking up my Archos to the 2013 on those longer journeys  :y

I could tart it up, pad it out, but in some management wank speak, but the end result is no doubt what the OP wanted, which is a short and simple, clear to understand - No!

;D

With that HU, yes. Some of the more modern fm modulators are quite good - I'm sure Dave DND will be along shortly with his recommendation (he's a car audio fitter/repairer).

Re other hu, not sure how that will work with the dash display?
It is paired with the oe hu and one wont work without the other being present and paired correctly afaik.

So if you fit the Alpine, the dash display wont work meaning no fluid, bulb and brake pad warnings etc for check control, no outside temp reading/time.
In effect the read unit is a built in to the cars systems as i understand it...?

If you find a hu that works with bose (dif amps output or something) telematics, info display, and stearing wheel controles and has more up to date features that will allow traffic for the sat nav and direct controle for i pod...? please let me know  ;)

If you change the HU on a facelift with OE satnav, you'll want to pop in a mid and new wiper stalk - the gid/cid work, but no way of controlling them.

The head unit does not have a suitable aux-in (it has a lo-fi mono one for phones), so you're stuck with fm adapters or cassette adapters.
