Title: NCDC/GID/Telematics (VXL V6)
Post by: TheBoy on 15 February 2009, 16:42:20
Thought I'd make this a public discussion so everyone can join in, rather than private between VXL V6 and I.

VXL V6 kindly loaned OOF some NCDC, displays, and telematics units to try to further assist with decoding these units.

What was supposed to be there was:
NCDC2015/GID/Telematics all with unknown code.
NCDC2013/GID with known code.
Telematics, new, unpaired.

The bad news is that the Telematics paired with 2015 won't power up.  Been round it with a meter, reckon there is a problem with the 0v internally - need further advice on that one.

Even more bad news is the supposedly unpaired telematics is already paired with an unknown code.

Good news is we are quite adept at decoding paired NCDC/NCDR series radios - done my 2, MDTM's, and now this one, so the process definately works :D.

Had a good look around the top board on the nokia telematics, couldn't really see a likely candidate for where the code is held - there is a 29 series AMD flash on there??

Any help whilst we have VXL V6's telematics would be really helpful :)

What information are you looking for TB?

Would a known working unit help the diagnosis process? If so would anyone have a telematics unit that they could manage without for a short period?

Any help would be appreciated on this one as this is the final link in the chain of the NCDC/NCDR Head units and CID/GID Display units pairing / coding  :y

Someone capable of repairing those nokia Telematics units ideally to start with - get your other one repaired.

Perhaps Dave DND might like to have a look? Bit of a rare beast with very little information on the Internet  :(

Yes please! Is the OOF courier service available?  ;D

EDIT: Just sent an Email to Nokia, I won't hold my breath waiting for a reply though!

TB and I need to get together at some point as I have two CID boards, a Bose tray, a flight case and a wedge of cash here for him

I know you're a damn sight better at lifting chips than I am.

The 0v on the non working one, comes in on pins 31/32, but never makes it to what appears to be the main 0v areas (inc the case). strangely, there appears to be caps between pins 31/32 and the main 0v grounding parts where the case attaches.

The working one (as in fires up and communicates - still duff code) has a dead short between 31/32 and the case.

It appears to be a multi layered board, so little chance of tracing tracks.

Signs of dampness in the connector.

Reckon it would be OK to stick a jumper wire between 31/32 and the main 0v tracks?

Now here's a bit of news - ignoring the fact its a tedious job to set it all up, it seems that the telematics works, even though it has teh wrong pairing code  :-?

 :-?

If I remember correctly we assumed that the powerdown is controlled over CAN as there is no ign switched live to the telematics. I wonder if it senses the loss of CAN communication when the HU is off and starts a power off timer. My point is that with the HU off the Telematic is still on (and working) but lacking the pairing code from HU and Screen.

no, its firing up and powering down as expected (obviously via can)...  ...live data for tm shows ID OK (ie, its happy with hu's security)  :(

Just when I thought I understood these things..........

Must be something different about Telematics requirements of pairing to the HU's and Screens then?

Revision of the Telematic? Though I doubt that the pairing requirement was ever any different.

I guess the revision / part no of the unit probably relates more to the front Bezel fitted (and the deletion of the front panel SOS button).

So would one of the techy Vauxhall Workshop manual CD thingies help in this project ? Seems to be setup for 'interface' with tools....Tech2 ?

I have one of said CDs, haven't found much use for it yet, all seems way over my head in many respects - not quite the 'Haynes' style thing I had expected lol

Happy to dig around in it a bit and possibly lend out if of any use ? Have had a bit of issue running it on my PC  (doesn't like Vista 64-bit  :-[ dunno about 32-bit) but have it set up on my Eee....

If it's the CD i'm thinking of I don't think it will help. The genuine application only details test, diagnosis and wiring diagrams (car side). Actual schematics of a Telematics device isn't covered as it's a Nokia device.

Application is TIS 2000 - seems to be all about job times, wiring diagrams, diagnostics and so on.....

No use whatsoever in this case I'm afraid.
