Title: traffic master retro fit?
Post by: feeutfo on 28 February 2009, 09:36:09
In the absence of any tmc or traffic info in the car, can tm be retro fitted to my 3.2 elite with 2015 head unit?

If so, what do i need? The unit itself obviously,a silver one from Dave dnd perhaps?

and a button with any loom involved?

Cheers

Chris.

...and as you have Telematics you'll need to add two wires to the 36 way loom.

If you have cash to burn I was looking on the TM website the other day.

IIRC it was about £150 to get a TM fully fitted and with a subscrption for as long as you own the car.

Actually it's £130.

Which is a very good deal if you plan to keep the car more than 4 years

No, The warning messages about licence expiry (which we can turn off) will still be heard when connected correctly.

Sorry, I can only help with the box itself, not the installation.

hmmm, took a closer look at my module earlier and noticed the seal broken. So with nothing to loose i took the back off, then removed the 3 screws and turned the board over. Not much to see except there is an adjustable screw needing a flat blade screw driver to turn it set into the board. Whats that for then, anyone?

No, don`t mess with that pot - bugger to put right again !!

If you get the message of phone on the display, the TM is powered and working, but there is a problem withthe audio somewhere.

The audio out of the TM is the following wires

Orange / Red  =  Audio output of TM
Brown / Red =  Audio Ground

This is a low level output, so needs to go to the Phone audio input of the head unit.

 ;)

If that's the actual one and you want it to fit your Omega with a 2015 it has the wrong loom and the Tm Button is for a Vectra B

The two exta wires + pins you need are to pass the Audio in / 0V back to the connector that you plug the cars loom into otherwise you won't have any sound from your telematics or phone prewiring.

you have to move 2 wires for the telephone
speak to dave dnd for more information

Looks like a 26way iso lead from pic.  Gonna need a big hammer to get that into your 36way iso radio...

On the upside, the 26way ones are fully wired, unlike the 36way ones, so the phone signal would be passed through, if the loom fitted  :-X

i spoke to dave dnd because if i pressed the tm button it would just mute the stereo

he told me the telephone wired had to be moved

Yours is a different head unit entirely.

NCDC series is a 36 way ISO, the bottom 16 connections are broadly similar (couple of changes around the remote power and diags lines), but the top 20 way connector bears no resemblence at all to the top 10way connector in yours, both physically or electrically. ;)

right ok. Tbh i took a punt as it was only a tenner. Thought that wat ok for the money just for the module? But i still need the correct loom then. Anybody got one? :-)

You will need to butcher that loom, plus a 36 way one, then still add 2 wires iirc.

Quite a difficult loom to get hold of, if you buy the Autoleads loom to connect a Parrot car kit to a Siemens HU Omega you should be able to make it up quite easily.

Failing that, if you aren't using the phone pre-wiring then you could utilise that as it has all the connections you need and is a bit easier than trying to tuck the loom behind the HU, you'll just have to extend the TM button loom

Same problem I had Chris.
I've grafted the TM loom into the car body loom.
I used this diagram for the connections from the TM wiring.

Three wires need to be cut on the car loom they are pin 34 (on the back of the radio connector) black (mute line), pin 35 blue (phone audio) and pin 36 brown (audio ground). These three need to be cut and the six wires in and out of the TM box pieced into them.
On car body side, brown to brown/blue, blue to orange/blue and black to pink/blue.
On the head unit side brown/red to brown, orange/red to blue and pink/red to black. you then need to tap into the brown earth wire (pin 4) and I think I used the red (pin 2) for the black 0V and yellow 12V supplies ( don't cut these just tap into them).
