Title: vauxhall odb2 interface??

I saw on ebay a cheap diagnostic interface called odb2.

Did anyone used this? Probably you can't do much with it but it's cheap. Thinking of ordering it.
Suggestions ,if someone has them, would be welcome.

There are lots of readers for OBDII .. if you want a laptop based one get an ELM327, several versions on fleabay, the USB ones work OK, the serial ones need a "proper" old-fashioned serial port .. emulators don't seem to work.

The free software is a tad "iffy" but does what it says on the tin ... will read engine codes and put the EML out, it is possible to buy better software.

I have one of these, but don't use it now .. I found the setting up tedious to be honest. I bought the Maxscan GS500 instead .. does more, better and easier

ELM327 is around £20-£30, GS500 £70-£80 ... but a single visit to a dealer for a plugin is also £70-£90 ...

OBDII is only on the later cars I think .. drive-by-wire,

Yes, looks to be a usb 'cheapo tech2'  

experiences of these are intermittant at best.

Yes I suppose things you can do with these are very limited.
Also I saw "My Naff Code Reader" interface and program.
Seems a litle better and just a little more expensive.
I suppose it will work on my car, because it's a facelift.
And what you said the one visit to the dealer for a fault code read cost more than these.

ebay "My Naff Code Reader"s are all ripoff copies I believe .. as the "real thing" is around £600.....  :(

If you just want to do engine stuff and reset the EML I do recommend the Maxscan .. it is easy to use and works well .. now lives in the car as it needs no laptop, it is a stand-alone device.

Again .. ebay ones can be copies or factory rejects .. I got mine from a proper source for only £15 more than the ebay "bargain" ..

Yes, illegal copies of what is a pretty good bit of software and hardware so quite clearly something we could not recommend  ;)
