Title: bose vs standard?
Post by: Bojan on 27 April 2009, 16:28:42
Can someone explain what is the difference between standard audio system and bose audio system?

I have omega MV6, MY 96. I suppose that is CAR 804 with 6 paper speakers. I have Panasonic HU.

What does the Bose system consist of? What would I need to acquire in order to have a fully functional bose sys?

Bose has different speakers (2ohm) plus 2 extra Subs (1 in the estate),(Tweeters the same), Head unit is put into Bose Mode giving weird levels out to drive the Bose Amp and a different loom.

Think the MID,GID,CID displays are also Bose mode programed.

Total swop out and rewire to upgrade to Bose.

Not sure how easily you could fit bose to your 1996 car, not sure what wiring you have.

We didn't have MV6 in UK until 1998 (or at least retail versions - some Police ones were called MV6, but only base spec).

and what is the difference in sound?
Is the sound much better with bose?

ps. we had MV6 from '94 to '00.

It’s better, slightly cleaner and a bit more bass, but it’s not amazing.

Most people that retro fit Bose in there Migs do it because they want to keep their cars along the Manufactures look, I think I probably fall in to that category.

It’s more common on to do it on Facelifts Migs because of the Double Din look.

If you can pick up a Bose setup cheap enough, I think it’s worth doing, no doubt many people will disagree, Horse’s for Course’s really.

i looked into installing bose and decided that although it was cheap with the amount of work required to install it it wasnt really worth while. aftermarket stuff can be fitted easily into the doors to retain the OEM look and the results will be much more impressive too

20 years or so ago, the BOSE was considered to be a very worthwile improvement over the standard setup, and 20 years ago, it was worth spending the money on it.

Whatever your opinion on how good the sound may be, the technology and equipment are still 20 years old, and aftermarket audio has evolved considerably over the years and has way overtaken the BOSE system.

A good set of aftermarket speakers will put the BOSE system to shame, a quality set of speakers and a small amp will blow your mind!

agreed dave but a bose kit can be picked up for as little as £60! you wont get a car  setup as good as the bose system for £60!

if you steer clear from the CCRT700 then a BOSE conversion is relatively easy and can be done in as little as 1 and a bit hours

Agree 100% and  personal taste for me...... Infinity Kappa components  will give a far better mid range  then the age old speakers from Bose

This is a great advice!
Thanks!

ps. I only saw used bose systems on ebay, prices around 200€ -> so, it's not that cheap.

Not worth doing for 200 euro (or £200, same thing today), might consider it, if it had a CID strapped to it.

I have seen preface complete Bose setups on eBay for around £60 though.
