Title: A weird one to do with lighting...
Post by: Andy C on 03 December 2006, 09:23:01
I've noticed that my facelift Omega has developed an interesting quirk whereby when the engine isn't running, pressing the indicator stalk into position will enable the side light and tail light for that side.  So if stalk is sat like / then the left hand side side light and tail light come on, and if the stalk is sat like \ then the right side lights come on.  As soon as the ignition is turned, the indicators operate as normal...

Any ideas guys?

Yes. It called a parking light!  ;) Preface lift has this feature too as did Senators before them (even my  '73Mk III Cortina did it )

..... Bloody annoying as well.
:-? why?  :-? I think that face lift cars tie it in with the lights on buzzer.

And to switch off parking light, means turning on ign, cancelling indicator, then ign off again.

:-? Now I'm completely confuddled?  :-?
You must be talking about facelift cars then ..... cos on my PRE face lift you just cancel the indicator.

That's how I thought they worked as well :-?

Most of the recent vauxhalls we've had have had the parking light option, caused the daughter numerous flat batteries by leaving the indicators one. She never did seem to learn.

How did we manage before most cars had 'lights on' buzzers and we had to look at the car as we walked off to check that we'd switched off our lights!  ;)

My pre-facelift S reg GLS does this, but never makes a sound about it, until someone says "do you know you have left your lights on" :-?

But my new Facelift, continuosly "ding ding dings" at me when I remove the key and open the door.

Equaly anoying as I spend 5 mins, wondering what I have done wrong :-[

Its like being back at school and the teacher is saying. "So what hav'nt we done"  :-/

I get a warning buzzer for leaving the lights on but I'm not sure about the parking lights, will have to check this. I know the senny and the cav had warning buzzers for lights but not for parking lights.

Why go to the effort? In 15 yrs or so of Omega/Senator ownership, it's never caused me a problem.  :-/ :y

Not on the omega but the Vectra has a winje when you open the door with parking lights on

perhaps a vectra lightswitch may do the job not 100% sure though the light buzzer is deffo oin the lightswitch so it mite work :-/ :-/

Surely your indicator should disengage when left parked with straight wheel!?  :-?

Parking light comes handy if you had to leave your car on roadside, slighly sticking out on main road after dusk ::) light up one side and you`re safe..

PS.my carlton did that too, no buzzer though
