Hi, my colour display on my ncdc 2013 has recently started to break up.
IE the picture goes scrambled.
When I push the dash panel on the display side it comes back on for a short while then goes off again, slapping the top of the dash over the display also seems to bring it back for a while.
I am thinking that maybe there’s a broken wire or a dry solder joint to one of the pins.
I have used the forum for info on how to take out the dash, I have removed the large grey plug to the display but I am not sure how to remove the small black plug as not sure how it locks in.
Any other suggestions or information on display break up please I would be very grateful thanks.

Quite common with the vibration of the car for the plug to work loose, try unplugging from the rear and reseating the plug back in :y
-
Hi Lee thanks for the post.
I have removed the large grey plug and reseated it and the display stopped on longer but the display still breaks up.
I have removed this plug again, taken off the outer jacket and checked all the wires are attached and they were.
I then replaced the plug without its jacket and moved each wire intern this made no difference. The screen was working ok while I moved the wires but scrambled again after.
I need to remove the small black plug but not sure how this locks into the screen I do not want to use to much force as it may break.

Harvin

The smaller black plug has a small spring clip same as the larger grey plug, it's located centrally on the grey plug side of the black plug. A good sharp tug with the clip depressed should see it out.

Thanks Lee I will go and give it a try.

-
Hi Lee, thank you plug came out real easy depressing that clip.
Taken the jacket off the small plug and with the screen removed from the dash housing plugged both plugs back in to check small plug wires these were ok.
What I have found out now is when I squeeze the screen housing very lightly on the big plug side screen picture comes on and stops on.
Would seem a lose connection inside screen on that side so I am going to open the back cover and take a look.

Harvin

Glad you're closer to solving it H :y
-
That fault is always a faulty LCD panel. Solution, new panel.
If you can find a way to clamp ribbon to glass, you may resolve.
-
Hi, there’s just a little play maybe 1mm on the plug side of the housing a very light squeeze to close this play and the screen starts working ok.
I am thinking of taking this play up with a small self taper to see if I can get a bit more life out of it, if you say the ribbon may be on the way out.
I have not taken the screen out of its housing so as to expose the LCD however I have now got the unit on the dinning room table so will take a look.
Could you give me an idea what to look for.
Regards
Harvin

CID is made up of 2 boards and the LCD panel. The 2 boards are connected via 2 connectors, and the middle board is connected to the LCD panel via a (reliable) ribbon cable.
The panel itself, a self contained unit, is made up of the electronics/driver board, and the actual LCD 'glass' bit, joined by a ribbon. It would appear that the problem lies in the connection of this ribbon to the LCD glass. A specialist LCD repair shop **may** be able to restick the ribbon to the LCD, but its not a job for a hobbiest electronics person.

Thanks for the information I decided last night not to play around with it for the same reasons, so just about to go out and rebuild the dash.
Could you please tell me if the unit needs a new LCD or am I looking at replacing the whole unit?
Do you do this type of work, as I was thinking of visiting you for the TS2 updates, my 3.2 elite is on 51 plate and as far as I know has never had any.

need to replace lcd panel. the sharp 126 panel no longer available, 136 is, though I reckon its not as 'sharp' - maybe hotel21 who has a 136 current in his could comment?
panels aint cheap, if your not confident, there is a place on egay that does it for around 170eu
-
http://www.bba-reman.co.uk/uk/index.aspx will fit a 136 panel in if you aren't confident or can't find someone on here to do it! ::)

Thanks very much for the information.

Yep VXL V6 is right, get hold of Nigel Graham (Techie) at BBA-Reman. Had my CID repaired (new LCD panel) there for approx £180 with 2 year warranty. Unlike TB can't say that I've noticed any difference in sharpness of display. If you are confident and can source one of the Sharp 136 panels it is not much of a job to repair yourself (I believe there are only three wires involved that need to be soldered) but will not cost you that much less and will involve a very careful dismantling of the units PCB boards which sit above the screen. Thats why I left it to BBA!!
-
Cheers wingman thanks for the info, Probably give them call this week.

I had a CID that went 'streaky'. The fault was traced to a dry joint on the ribbon cable connector on the screen PCB. This PCB linked the screen to the other 2 PCBs. The joint was approx 0.5mm wide and a good friend of mine managed to re-flow the joint and cure the fault; eventually
The screen is replacable. The original part number is a Sharp LQ5AW126 which I believe has been superceded by a Sharp LQ5AW136 (this needs careful checking though).
As the screen is a distinct separate part within the CID, I believe it (the screen) could be replaced without affected the pairing issue, since the data and pairing code for the CID is held on boards 2 and 3 (taking the screen PCB as board 1) and these are not part of the screen (not CID) assembly.
New Sharp screen is approx £150 - £200
HTH and good luck
This is from another thread which is on the same issue

136 panels around £120-£150 delivered (inc import duty). Pretty easy to change, only soldering is the 3 metal prongs
-
Thanks for the info TB, can I ask you few questions please.
Those 3 metal prongs that require soldering are these, the ones that connect to the buttons on the outside of the dash above the display or is it something else?
I was wondering how these metal prongs cleared the casing as the plastic clip on them seems like it’s a permanent fit.
Do these have to be unsoldered first to remove the unit from its casing then soldered back on when LCD is replaced?
I would be grateful for some information here as you say, sounds like it’s pretty easy to change.
Also could you please give me some details on how to get hold of a screen?

If you want to replace the LCD panel yourself here below are two more links that have information on Omega Displays and where you may be able to source an LCD panel from plus some further general info that may help.
The first is a link to this forum and it is a tale of woe from a member and his dealing with Vauxhall over the same fault as yours and mine. He too managed to solve the problem by replacing the Sharp LCD panel with a Sharp LQ5AW136 (as the LQ5AW126 is obsolete). He sourced his from Germany but there are UK suppliers.
The second link is to Sharp and gives details of suppliers in the UK section where panels can be obtained from.

http://www.sharpsme.com/Page.aspx/europe/en/584a4758-fe34-4f95-a54d-e3b92ca554fa/
The last information is from the Vauxhall owners network and gives details of where this member got his panels from. You will note from the price he had to pay that there is only approx £30-40 difference between a DIY job and BBA-Reman (unless prices have altered substantially). You might wish to note that you may have difficulty in getting someone to supply you, as from experience they can sometimes be very touchy about supplying items like this to non trade/non manufacturers
"The LCD in my NCDC 2013 was a Sharp LQ5AW126 and I found it impossible to source, but I discovered that an Sharp LQ5AW136 was an equivalent. I got hold of the data sheets for both and compared them and they appeared identical so I bought one in the Uk, fitted it, and it has worked absolutely fine for 3 years now.
The cheapest LQ5AW136 I came across in England was £145 before tax and delivery - Eurodis Electronics (+44) 8707 568199
I purchased mine at £165 from Hero Electronics (+44) 1525 405015 - the guy was very helpful and offered a full refund if it didn't do the job! so I paid up for the extra service. You do see them occasionaly on Ebay"
Hope all of this helps you.
-
Oh well done wingman thanks for the info.
I still have BBA Reman in mined to do the job, however on reading TBs post it seems like it could be a strait forward job.
When I had the unit on the table the other day it was only these 3 metal prongs that stopped unit from coming out of its housing.
The opposite side to the prongs will freely move, when lifted the L C D then freely moves. So the screen itself is only trapped in place by the circuit boards.
Any way will take a look at those links you send me and thanks again.

Harvin

Its easy enough, and the 136 panel fits fine. The CID Hotel21 is currently using is a 136

Hi I am having a bit of a problem trying to get hold of the LCD panel.
Looked on sharps web sight and the LQ5AW136R has been discontinued.
They give an alternative as the LQ050Q5DR01 but checking the spec the pixels numbers, input, and size are not the same.
Up to now I have tried the following companies for stock but no joy:
Anglia, Arrow Electronics, Silica. Any body got any ideas please.

The company that repairs CIDs on egay will sell you a screen. There is another seller stateside, but with poor £-$ currently, but time you've paid import duty, not that great.

Thanks TB will look them up.

That is approx the price of a new LCD panel. I think I paid $170 Canadian dollars delivery for the panel thats now in your car.
As an aside, your old panel is behaving itself too well - didn't want to swap over until I had a photo of what a corrupt screen looks like ;D. I need to do something, as currently it claims I am achieving 75mpg, and have a range of 1200m. In my dreams ;D
-
O yes my old panel is behaving itself!!! If I was lucky on starting up in the morning the screen would come on clear as a bell, but in my mind I would here the Sat Nav voice say:
“You now have 10 seconds to change the radio station before self destruction, please make a little u turn” lol. ;D ;D

Harvin.

I changed my 126 panel for a 136 about 3 years ago (for exactly the same problem that you have), and the 136 is absolutely fine. I have the specs of both somewhere, they are almost identical in spec. If you can source a 136, its a fairly easy process if you are familiar with handling electronics.
Good luck
Pat

I have the photos on the phone ready to do a how2 when I get a mo....

Cheers guys, still waiting for the screen to arrive hopefully later today or tomorrow. :D

Hi TB, got the new screen today well went and fetched it from parcel force in Stoke on Trent around a 30 mile trip. They would have posted it but that may have taken a day or two, needed to get it up and running before going back to work.
Had to pay VAT on the item and a handling charge to parcel force £24, but still ok really overall cost £144.
I have put the old screen back in to take a picture of the scrambled screen but is now only displaying the blank white screen so have taken a couple of pics of these if you want them links below.
I am now going to put the new screen in and try it out will post the outcome later. :)

Good news Harvin on receipt of screen. Can I ask where you sourced a Sharp 136 screen from in the end? Was it Germany?
-
Don't bin the old screen....
-
Hello all, I have now put the new screen in and rebuilt the unit and works a treat.
All that remains is for me to say thank you to all the members who have help me with this project without which I would not have known were to start.
Thanks again to The Boy for loads of info, and on how to get hold of a screen when most places I tried were out of stock.
I will keep the screen TB do you think we may find a master repairer of these :)

Hi all
A new member here but not an Omega owner, hope its still fine to ask for help.
Thanks to a guy called Nick Argue (Omega owner), I got pointed to this thread and I've exactly similar problem as Harvin, however my car is a 2001 Astra Mk4 DTi LS.
I've a Siemens NCDR 1500 unit with 5 inch sat nav display CID at the top.
The screen is flickering at the moment and I am looking for a new LCD.
I've taken the CID off now and can dismantle it as described by "the Boy".. It looks exactly similar going through his guide but there is no part number sticker at the back of my CID to prove its exactly same as the Omega one.
Would LQ5AW136 LCD fit my CID as well?
I've also found this LCD at:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360153450426&_trksid=p2759.l1259
However, it says the part number as LQ5AW136 T and does not mention Opel/ Vauxhall in its list.
If I go ahead and buy this one, would it work?
Thanks for your help in advance..
-
Hi Ksareen, got your PM thanks I am not sure what the T stands for.
The screen I bought was just the LQ5AW136 which is a 5” display.
Below is a link to sharps website showing the specs for this screen?
May be the boy will be able to help you more.

Astra G, Omega and Vectra CID's are the same LCD setup.
The T I suspect is nothing more than a minor production change
-
Thanks Harmin, Marks
If you check the link on ebay, it looks like the same 5 inch LCD as the other one. THis one will ship in 3 days, whereas from Canada it may take 10 days as well as the customs and VAT duty on top, so I am inclined to get this one from Portugal as its within the EU.
I will wait till tomorrow for a response from "the boy". At the moment I am happy with what Mark said, its probably a minor production change (but why he did not list Opel/ Vauxhall/ GM in his advert?)..
The seller's response is "not sure, send me your LCD image for confirmation".
-
If you sent me a PM, its lost - my account here got destroyed :'(
Astra-G takes same panel as Omega, and the 136 is fine :)
-
Thanks TheBoy, I've ordered the screen form portugal fleebay..
Its a used one with 6 months warranty. I priced him down to EURO 115 including delivery.
Hopefully it should arrive by tomorrow and I shall update the forum once I've replaced.
Thanks for your continued support once again..
-
Hi again
Just to update you all that I managed to get the LCD and replace it on my CID. The CID is back up and running fine on my car. No visible difference apart from 1 dead Pixel (2nd hand LCD)..
The Boy's guide worked really well. Would just like to add that there is an exception to the guide. Near the end of dismantle, when you eject the ribbon cable, my CID does not have any retention clip to hold that ribbon cable. I just gently pulled it out evenly from both sides. Similarly I just had to push it in from both sides when finishing the installation.
Thanks a ton to TheBoy, Marks DTM, Nick Argue and Harmin for their help. Without their help, I am sure I would have got nowhere..
You guys rock!!
