Post by: spikerz on 30 June 2009, 19:28:27
having removed the previous owners dodgy connectors to the light clusters wiring,(which wasn't working properly)i re-wired it to the plug behind the panel in the boot.(as explained on here)its all working now except i need to know where the caravans 'fridge'(red) and the 'battery charging'(blue) wires go.i have connected the caravans 12 V power wire (green)to the plugs constant/permenant 12 V(red)

You need to wire the 12S socket ... the Fridge supply should go through a relay, either Ring or Smartcom make them, so that it only supplies power when the engine is running. This is to avoid the fridge flattening the battery.

The "permanent" 12 v can also go through the smartcom .. this will "drop" the 12v fed to the 'van of the car battery gets too low... personally I don't bother with this .. if I want the 12v feed.. I want it ... so it is wired straight to the battery, via  20 amp fuse.

Now, the one thing they never tell you about ..... :( On the 12S the centre pin is the 0v (earth) for everything coming back to the car, and it gets pretty hot, melts and goes bad ... :(

What can be done is to link across from the centre pin to an un-used pin, and then connect that unused pin to 0V (earth) inside the car. If you ensure that both the centre pin, and this extra pin, have really good, clean, 0V (earth) connections you avoid a whole load of grief.

An even better method is to bin the 12N / 12S system and go 13 pin .. but that's another story and probably a lot of work !!!

HTH   :)
