Title: omega satnav gps problem
Post by: ray curnow on 11 July 2009, 16:21:02
Hi guys i got a problem with my sat nav, first it went into german. Sorted that out now i cant get any pickup or correct positioning of gps. Says i'm in scotland somewhere.

If i press info and drive the co-ordinates move but still does not pick up my correct position.

I have removed the head unit and reseated and checked the connection to the ariel.
Still no joy, tho when i unplugged the ariel i still got the same info.
I just get the arrow randomly poing in different directions, and the sat nav saying ready, every so often i can get it to be active but then after 5 mins becomes in-active.

So my question is, is the ariel faulty and need replacing if so whats a good replacement as caanot find them anywhere; or is there something else i need to look for?

thanks
p.s. i also have the 2008 cd and all that gives me is extra road names etc.

Try a replacement antenna - readily available on Ebay for around £15 or so -

Do these antennas fail very often last week end my system stopped working lost its position and would not reset even after several attempts at repositioning the car , I also lost all satelites even though the portable sat nav was showing 7 . I did a reset to default and it eventually sorted its self out again but today I went to use it and it could not tell where I was again showing no satellites  ::)
Could that be the antenna too  :question

As long as you get the smb-f version (might need to contact them, as no smb-f ones when I looked last night)

The link I post up for LFF is the right fitting for your IF it is the gps thats failed, but not possible to get the plastic connector that clips into cage.  This means you have to modify cage to be just big enough to clip the radio in, and plug all the wires directly into radio :(

Worth checking yours is making a good connection first - sometimes cage distorts around nav connection, resulting in poor connection

Yeah tried refitiing the head unit, you saying this (replacement aeriel)plugs into the rear of the head unit rather than connect it to the connector by the roof aeriel it self (just under the lining at the rear is a connector wich i guess is to change the aeriel)? :-/

The cheap replacements is a totally seperate aerial - I chucked mine on the dash.  If you want one exactly as per old one, thats a dealer supply I'm afraid
