Title: IN Car DVD
Post by: Darth Loo-knee on 04 August 2009, 14:23:10
I am thinking along the lines of putting screens in the rear of the front headrests so the girls could watch a dvd or play on the playstation if they wanted...

Anyone done this?
I assume the wires would run inside the seat for the monitors but where do you put the dvd player? or would you be able to plug a portable dvd player into these monitors? but would a portable dvd player have two sockets to accomodate to two monitors?

Any help would be appreciated
Cheers :y

you thinking a permanent wired jobby?

ours was from argos, 1 player, with 2 screen outputs, 2 sets headphones, and just strap the screens to the headrests.

one thing to watch, is it may be worth having 2 totally independant setups.

your damned which ever way you go...

1 player they will argue over what to watch
2 players they will argue over single copies of things  ;D

I`ve done it a few times   ::)

Some of the cars I`ve done can be seen here

http://www.dndservices.co.uk/htmls/flash_htmls/projects.htm

and if you need any assistance or bits, do not hesitate to ask - not much I haven`t fitted or played with in the last 17 years of owning a car audio business.

Best advice I can give is to avoid the cheap screens - false economy as the viewing angle and screen colour is often very poor.

Oh, and if you are just planning it out at the moment, decide whether you want the two screens to always show the same thing simultaneously, or you want independant control -

ie: Kid A watching one thng, Kid B watching something else

We got ours from argos for £150, they have dvd player behind the screan, you can change the switches so you can watch the same in both screans or both watch different things.

Dave, have you done any Omegas? It would be nice to see how you have done it... And it would also be nice to know if anyone has had the factory-fitted roof-console in a Omega. I think it was the same that was available to Zafira also, but it would be nice to hear comments about that setup. Also, if anyone has retro-fitted one, would like to see a "how-to"

I`ll dig out some Omega piccies - certainly done a few, including roof monitors. Not retro fitted the Zafira Autovision screen though, as mounting hardware difficult to obtain. (Ford C-Max for those that want to track it down though - Vauxhall never carried any spares for them)

And I do have a quantity of brand new Autovision units if anyone interested, but do not come with any mounting or leads - email me if interested.
