Do you have BOSE ?
-
have not got a clue
-
Can someone with an Omega please assist with an explanation of what to look for and to work out if BOSE is present.
My thoughts were to look for the subwoofer in the rear quarter panel (estate) or rear shelf (saloon) as a quick indication
:-?
If BOSE is present, then unfortunately it is NOT compatable with an aftermarket stereo.
:'(
-
yes it has bose thanks for that info on the phone call
-
OK - two options open to you.
1) replace ALL the speakers and rewire / bypass the amplifier so that you can use an aftermarket stereo
2) Find a suitable / original Vauxhall stereo that can be configured to run the BOSE system (not all can)

Check fuse 6 in the fuse box. If its blown the head unit works but the Bose amp wont.
;)
-
check fuse 6 ,replaced with a new 20 amp....tried with a car 400 radio unit still no sound,,,so looking for a bose unit
-
If its a CDX then it wont have factory fitted Bose, but Bose could be added fairly easily from the guys selling here - for about £80 and will sound much better than many aftermarket units.
My view is that you stick with getting sound from the CAR400 and then move forward from there.
I dont suppose that the display is saying PHONE - as that would mute the radio! Do you get as far as entering the code into the radio?

I've just hand another thought.
Have you ever had sound from the speakers?
A CDX should have the CD autochanger fitted, with a cable running to the back of the car. If the CD autochanger cable has been removed then the speakers will be silent as the speaker connections are looped into & then out of the CD changer cable - if that makes sense.
BTW - fuse 6 only works with the Bose setup - thats the only thing that its connected to.

thanks for that input,i have check the cd changer or the place where one should be.theres no wires just the petrol cap lock ,,,does that shed any light the display is ccr700t as well with a few dead pixels
-
Yes, very much so!
To check for sure then the easiest way is to remove the piece of trim over drivers side rear wheel arch. Its held in place by 2 torx headed screws, and goes from just below the seatbelt to the floor level. You will need to lower the rear seat to get to one screw and remove the rear seat cushion to get to the other one.
If when you remove that there should be half a dozen or so wires taped into a bundle running around the wheel arch - but if its missing then you have a problem as someone has removed the cable with the changer prior to you getting the car! There should be a minimum of a single black wire - thats the aerial cable and doesn't count!
If the cable is missing then I suggest a call to where you got the car from as the radio could never have worked like that as the speakers are disconnected further down the cable which plugs next to the drivers foot.
The good news is that the replacement cable for this comes with the Bose upgrade and is included in the price, so all isn't lost, in fact if the cable were there then you would replace it anyway.
Its important that when you get a Bose kit that you get one with a CCRT700 and the correct CD changer for it. The CCR800 won't work with the display that's in your car, and the CCR800 and CCRT700 have incompatible CD changers.
Estate wiring is rarer than saloon wiring, but can be modified. You will need to get an estate subwoofer though as they are unique.
There are enough people here to give you advice on making this happen - but a few words with where the car came from are required in my view if that cable is missing.

Personnal preference I suppose I like the sound of my Bose too :)

We are all entitled to our views, but what I should have done is qualified my comments by saying "for £80" ....
The 210 Watt Bose is designed specifically for the Omega, and for its time sounded (and still does) excellent. Where it falls a bit short nowadays is the inability to play MP3 or USB etc.
Is the Bose better than all aftermarket, no. Are all aftermarket systems better than the Bose, no. But its a hell of a system for not a lot of dosh ....

i have no budget in mind but your reasonning is sound advice, can anyone point to which way i shouldgo

From what Rob is saying... can you get an after market sound system for £80?
If not maybe Bose is the way :y
-
Personally I would go with the Bose, its made for the car and for most purposes its a very good setup.probably less messing about to install than an aftermarket system as well. :y
-
Thats my whole point. £80 gets you a Bose, but an aftermarket system which (probably) isn't as good .........
-
I think Darth Loo-knee had a Bose system for sale recently, might be worth the op PMing him. :-/

And so I do, but that is not my reason for posting that I prefer Bose, I just think it sounds better than any other sound system I have had :)

I repair the living room ceiling (on average) once every 15 months or so due to the damage caused by the subs.
-
No Bose in a CDX as said, but I thought one of the upgrades from a CD to CDX was it had a seperate Amp fitted? if so could this be the problem?
-
if there is a seperate amp any ideas where to look
-
There is no separate amp in a CDX - HONEST.
The CDX had a CD Autochanger fitted - but yours is missing and someone has taken the cable too, it's that cable which ironically is stopping you hearing anything at all as the speaker connections go into the cable and straight out again.
You could get a cable (as it happens I have a spare one), or for not much money get a complete Bose setup which replaces this cable totally.
Did you lift off the wheel arch inner cover as I suggested to see if the bundle of cables is there?
