Title: Towbar wiring
Post by: Gaffers on 22 September 2009, 09:35:05
I know this topic has been beaten to death but I have a slightly specific question.  I got a towbar and wiring off LK earlier this year but I am confused as to how I should wire it in.  Should I splice the wires onto the loom at the back of the boot or do I but a plug fo rthe square connector and wire it in that way?  Tis all a little confusing...

I went collecting them from the back of Omegas in the scrap yard to make mine up. I've since discovered that the nearside rear post of my Astra estate has the same plug & socket within the ordinary car loom. Beware though, that the black/blue rear fog light loop on the original blank is there so the car's rear fogs work ie if you have an OE 8 terminal 12N socket, they are wired up with a micro switch that turns the car's rear fogs off when you plug in your 12n plug. Also ..... the yellow/black brake light wire of the square socket, is wired via a trailer brake light check 'relay' above the driver's feet. You need to either buy the 'relay' or bridge the 2 terminals on the base for the trailer brake lights to opperate.
