Hi, I've got a 2001 2.6, after carrying out the "brake trick" I noted the codes 0170 & 0173 (fuel trim malfunction) would this stop the car from starting and also codes 1611 & 1612
( wrong security code/wrong signal immobiliser) this is original item so I can't see how this code can come up,I'm sure someone can advise me.
Car has good battery and turns engine over well but just won't start, has played up, starting and non starting over the last couple of weeks but doesn't want to know now.
Hope someone is able to advise a solution. Thanks.

2 questions....
Does the EML flash when your trying to start the car?
Is the little grey chip still in the key?
-
1. EML doesn't flash when trying to start car.
2. chips are still in both keys.
Thanks for replying.

Does the EML light come on for a few seconds when first switching the ignition on .... ie .. is the darn thing actually working !!!
AFAIK you can't have a 1612 without the flashing EML ... (could be wrong though ... )

That's why I asked as I thought the same ;)

EML does come on for a few seconds but then goes out when ignition key is finally turned to the start position.
I've always found that I can do what is not techically possible, I think it's a curse but the question is "whats the answer".

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for about 30 minutes and seeing if it will reset?
-
I disconnected battery, but only for 5 minutes or so, will try again in the morning for 30minutes +, hopefully this time I will be lucky. Thanks.

When you reconnect the battery, switch the ignition to number 2 and leave it until the EML stops flashing, normally about 30 - 45 seconds. The 2.2 I'm breaking wouldn't start after the battery had gone flat and been recharged. Flattened the battery again trying, so fitted a spare. Left the key on number 2 for a minute and the flashing lights settled. Started 1st time then.

Will definately try that in the morning.
Thanks.

Before disconnecting the battery I turned the key to the second position to check all lights had come on and found that the EML was not lit. I had to charge the battery onTuesday and used the booster on the charger whether this has affected the EML I hav n't a clue. I did disconnect the battery and left it off for 4/5 hours on reconnection I was hoping that the EML would be lit but no and obviously the vehicle would not start either. Any suggestions Thanks
