Title: Seat swap problem
Post by: Selseybill on 21 October 2009, 13:31:36
I have swapped my seats for a leather set, followed the wiring instructions Perfect they work as they should. My problem is  when i turn the ignition on the airbag light comes on then goes out as it should but within 3 seconds it comes back on and stays on.Anyone any ideas what the problem is and how do i reset the warning light.

you will need a diag computer to turn the light off.

the same kit will reveal why  it is / was a problem.

Likely this could have been avoided if you disconnected battery first to avoid the sensor noting a side 'bag "issue"!

Damn....

i did disconnect the battery but like a idiot didn't move the cable far and it touched the battery .
So could this have given the senser a faulty reading ?

The airbag ECU would have seen an open circuit on the pre-tensioners and side airbags and hence stored a fault code.

Because its a safety device, the light remains on even if the fault has been sorted.

My garage has quoted £20 incl to clear fault.does this sound about the right price to pay

Cheaper than the dealers .... £20 will get it turned off at your garage, but £20odd will buy you a 'Cheapo TechII' forever & will turn your air bag light off as many times as you want.  ;)  ;)

In a nut shell .... yes!  ;) You plug one end into the diagnostic socket under the dash and the other end to your laptop via the lead. Install the program & you're away! I don't do computer etc either but can manage my simpler version. ;)  ;)  :y  :y

I wouldn't like to say!!!!! I suppose anything's possible.  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D Mine's only very basic, ie read fault codes & can reset airbag lights, so I reckon it's nigh on impossible. Can't say about the "My Naff Code Reader" though.

Coming back from the lodge tonight i found out i can set up the memory on the seats but i was lead to believe without plugging in the large multi plug(which i  have no wiring to the car for)this wouldn't work.Have i wired something up wrong ?

"My Naff Code Reader" makes a decent code reader but is a bit dodgy at programming radios or keys.
So if you stick to reading codes or collecting live data from the car you should be fine.

There are a couple of connections on the memory seat connector that need to be "fooled" into making the seat memory work as in the instruction manual.

IIRC, these are an ignition switched supply and one which tells you that the drivers door is open.

The other connections on this connector are for the mirror(s) memory settings.

The details of which wirs you need are in the Elite seats how to in the maint section.
