I may be wrong, but as this one is a plastic box I think its from a Vetra, the Omega ones IIRC were in a metal box.

Correct.
The vectra one has an inbuilt aerial and sat at the top of the glovebox, so not sure how well it would receive when attatched low down in the dash (loom plug is identical BTW) when compared with teh metal box one that has a seperate aerial
:-/

Black plastic ones are aslo fitted to the omega, mainly facelifts I think.

Are they still fitted in the same location as the silver ones then?

Yup drivers side behind the carpet panel above the pedals, obviously they don't have the aerial behind the dash.

From about 2001, Omega ones are plastic type. Range is slightly reduced compared to metal ones, which can be both good and bad ;D

I bet that was to cut down production costs. The extra work in fitting the "aerial" around the inside of the aircon surround for UK spec cars must have been a real pain for the guys in Russelsheim!

Nah, Traffic Master changed the Oracle unit, as aerial considered no longer required due to better sensitivity of the unit.
