Title: MV6 Sports seat rebuild
Post by: amba on 12 October 2009, 09:13:29
As a christmas present from me to me,I have decided to invest in a refurb of both my front leather sports seats in an effort to get the heated function working again,so I dont have to endue another winter of "cold a..e".
I have found a good seat refurbisher who has said he can strip down the seats and fit new heater pads in ,but would leave all external wiring to me ,which is fine.
Due to the fairly poor quality and limited life span of the original GM Recaro Keiper elements I am considering if a retro fit system such as Waeco would be better and more cost effective, also I understand they would give a much better heat-up rate and have a split heat range.
Has anyone gone down this route ? and has any comments to add.
I would also be interested to know if the original seat pads have just a base and back or is there another smaller element for the thigh bolster cushion.

As an ex-interior trimmer, I would say the Waeco ones would be fine.
These are what we used as retro-fit.
Wiring is pretty simple, and as far as I know, no-one ever came back with a complaint about them. Just make sure you route the wires where they won't get caught on anything that moves (unlike GM!).

When you price up the bits from VX..and thats assuming they are still available, the waeco retro fits look really good value.
Local car trimmer has quoted me £75 a seat to remove and fit new back and base heater pads,so think with the cost of the non standard heater pads, that is the route to go.
With any luck might have 2 nice heated up seats soon...even though passenger side does work seems to take ages to get even warm so will get both sides done....then need to move onto the back and find out why they are not working.

The MV6 seats are heated in the bit that extends up under the knee also. I can also confirm that MV6 seat heater elements are the same in both cloth and leather seats   - which is not true for non-MV6 cloth/leather

Retro kit that I have bought is just the seat base and back pad...........the anticipated pleasure of having a heated drivers seat again after along time, out weights the non heater element in the thigh bolster.I am convinced the elements and cushion pads are far better quality in the Waeco kit, than the genuine VX ones ever were,so thats the route I will be going when I get round to it.
Will post up the results when completed..hopefully before the weather gets warm again. !

I agree!!!

Also, you should be able to wire the thigh bolster in to the Waeco mats. ;)
