I eventually got to the bottom of a strange EML warning initially spotted by Markey Mark and then by Mark DTM using his Tech 2. :(

This little "adjustment" to the PCB meant that the EML light came on/off with the battery light and not when it should have done. As you can see, as one of the flexible connectors was removed it wasn't possible to repair the board - so replacement was the only viable option.
Although I've suspected the root cause of the problem since having the car, it was only last night that I had the inclination to sort it!
I was lucky to have a spare instrument panel having the same PCB part number, so I set about swapping them over. I didn't just replace the whole dash as the spare one has a higher mileage.
It wasn't too difficult a job, and based on the feedback from you guys may well post a how to if anyone is interested? :question
The symptoms were that the EML light went off imediately with the battery light when starting. Now that its fixed it works as it should.
BTW - I've yet to find out why this bodge was done, but hopefully the problem got a lot worse for a previous owner who then had to do something about it.
Fingers crossed!

........
It probably took longer to "fix by bodge" than it would have done to fix what ever was triggering the EML in the first place.

Hi Steve,
Youv'e made my day with that one, I roared with laughter! :y
The downside is that I've now got an EML light code that I need to get rid of and have started a new post on that!
