Title: ABS & TC light coming on
Post by: The Duck. on 08 November 2009, 15:19:06
Hi hope some1 here can help me with my problem. The car is a 99 2.5 V6 Elite Auto and sometimes when driving ( more than ever now) the ABS & TC light come on together. The speedo stops working and the cruise control. If u drive it a distance it will go off again r if u stop take out the key and leave a few seconds it fine for another while. Its more annoying than anything else plus i got a speeding ticket the other day >:( Anyway any suggestions would help. Thanks guys :)

you can get them re-furbished, i shudder to think what Vx would charge new, prob best to contact one of the breakers here.

Deffo abs ecu knackered mate!

Second hand one expect to pay around £45 - £55 for one - try and get one from exactly same year and model (incl g/box type) as yours - wont then need Tech2 session.  (Part Nş on bottom of ecu :()

Refurb on yours - expect to pay upwards of £130.

I went used route on the Estate.

B*gger of a job to do - bottom four bolts you cannot see - undo by feel - very little space to work.  But a doable job - just needs a lot of patience and the right tools!!

Good luck  :y

Mine was removed by local garage..as I live very close to BBA took it to them on a Thursday and fully refurbished by Monday ..£110=00 and 1 year warranty ,then local garage refitted it.
they said it was easier to remove from below and they took of the entire pump and abs assembly as quicker ??

I think people have posted on OOF that you can remove the ABS ECU and still drive the car.

Your brakes will still work but you won't have ABS/TC or a working speedo. (therefore not strictly legal)

I wonder if the speed display on a GPS would be accepted as a legal speedo? It would be more accurate in most cases........

I drove mine with ECU removed and front of pump sealed over with ducktape....worked fine and only issue was no speedo(but that didn,t work with f..ed)ecu and no traction control or abs on the brakes.Power steering was fine ,actually felt better than with unit fitted as not speed related.
The garage that removed and refitted mine, did not need to use tech2 to blead brakes so only real issues were its removal and refitting ,which others have advised can be done by not removing the entire pump.
