Hi
I had a look but I can't seem to find a thread which relates to my problem but if there is you Guys will point me in the right direction.
My problem is with the radio switched on nothing appears on the dash display, turn the radio off and the date appears turn the radio on that display line goes blank.
Tried removing and reinsertng the unit but to no avail.
Any ideas????

Is it an aftermarket radio?
-
No genuine Vx that came with the car
-
sounds like a dodgy connection somewhere...
thats common with aftermarket units as they cant supply the info...
sounds like yours is trying to send the info, but its not getting there...
-
Or someone has fitted a GM radio that doesn't support the Omega MID
-
The display is driven by top connector at the rear, middle one does speakers and the lower one is power
check that these are all present and fitted ?
What model stereo do you have?
Was this working previously, or has something happened that has prompted thhs fault?
-
Hi Dave DNS
The unit is a CDR 2005, I've only the car for a week so I dont know when it last worked.
-
Its also possible it has an aftermarket unit fitted at some point, and the ecu was told it no longer had factory audio...
Do the steering wheel controls work?
-
Hi
Yea everthing works but not this particular line if the display
-
OK, providing all three plugs are fitted at the rear, you may find that you need to toggle the display mode on the stereo between 8 digits and 10 digits.
Display Programming
There are two versions of Vauxhall vehicle displays, one with 8 Digits and one with 10 Digits. If you connect this stereo to the wrong display, code entry is possible, but the display will either freeze or dissappear once the code has been entered. To reprogram, Turn off the Radio, Press and Hold Presets "3" & "5" at the same time, whilst switching the radio back on, and this will toggle between the two display modes.

No everythinh works fine both radio and CD plays ok steering controls all work. it's just the display.
I know it's not a major problem but if it can be resolved excellent.
-
can sometimes also be 2 + 5 depending on model
-
2 + 5 ????
Sorry if I'm being dumb

Sorry!!!

Did it work ? :-?

Just got out of work and gave it a go tried both 2 + 5 and 3 +5, 3 + 5 stereo bleeped but diplay still blank??
-
Only thing I can suggest next is to remove the radio for 10 mins, refit, and see what display prompts as far as code entry
Enter code, and then see what happens to the display then
:-/
-
Ok I'll give that a try. I also thought of checking the pins on the plug at the rear of the unit.. the one that plugs into the metal cage what do you think?

Wasn`t that the first thing I suggested ?

Sorry your right, I should have said the plug into the Display unit itself
-
unlikely to be the display plug, but whilst out, check the wiring at the back of the stereo to make sure all is ok, and then let me know what it does when refitted
-
Also, if you update your profile details with a location, there may even be someone nearby that can help you

Errrrrrr I don't want to appear foolish but....
how does one enter the code if the display isn't working?

Fair question !
When the Vauxhall stereos are initially powered up, all display modes are run simultaneously so that the code can be entered. Only once the code has been put in does the radio then default to its programmed state.
If you have no display when first powered up, then you really do have a serious problem, and not a programming one.

Hi again
Quick update, taken head unit out for 30 mins refitted, did'nt ask for any codes but original problem still persist. Checked both connections all seem ok so assuming it must be the headunit itself. Any how unless there are any other ideas thank for all your help up to now!

Can you confirm that something is plugged into all THREE blocks and not just the lower two?
-
I have to assume so, would the top pins not be bent if they wer'nt plugging together?
-
I think the next step is a drive down to Paignton
