my car has been giving me greif (instrument panel failure) and i wondered if i changed the ecu it might solve the problem.
any help much appreciated :y

Changing an ECU is mechanically very simple, but the simplicity ends there as its coded to the immobiliser, which is also coded to the chips in the keys.
You really need to advise what age your car is as things change by the year.
Why do you think the ECU is faulty? In thinking about it I'm not aware of any link from the ECU to the instrument panel. The main signal for speed comes from the ABS ECU, so the engine ECU will probably only drive the rev counter and nothing else.
Did you make a note of the reference numbers on the back of the instrument panel? If you have that then its possible that someone may have a spare one.
The number will be something like:
88 481 706
REgards

Yes as Ziad says i had the same problem but could only find one 15amp fuse blown in the box under the column but after changing it there was no difference :-?.
I had had enough for one day so left it until the next, but when i went out and switched on the ignition all was well again, "very strange" ::).
If yours is still the same try removing a battery connection for 1/2 an hour and refit it and see if it resets :-/.
HTH,
Pete :).
