Hi , left wife in car and went into a shop, some one tryed getting into the car, wife press'd the locks down and press'd the panic button but nothing happen'd light flashes but nothing happens, i have never even tryed it before but it should work, how can i fix it just in case need to use it, thanks :-?

Its not a panic button mate. It disables the alarm sensors which are in the car.
If you lock someone in the car and they DONT press the button - the alarm WILL go off if they move.
Likewise, If you lock someone in the car and the DO press the button - the alarm WONT go off if they move.
You need to press the button before locking the car though. :y

then why dose it say in book panic button, pic with man running off, say alarm gose off for 20seconds to deter entry. oh and alarm is set for dogs in back, any movment dont trig alarm checks before arming,

It doesn't, the owners manual refers to it as "Vauxhall Alarm System"

:-? :-? :-? Errr i'd like to see this 'dog' setting ;D
Omegas never had panic mode, as Ian says its to disable the alarm sensors, and i have never seen it refered to as panic mode.
Does two beeps? :-/
-
Not sure if this applies to Omega, but most Sigma alarms do actually have a panic facility if the key is pressed for around 5 seconds continously.
Howver, no such thing as a dog setting - I`m guessing you mean interior sensors deactivated or desensitised ?
:-?
-
I'm totally confused.
The Omega button on the dash simply disables the sensors - which is what the fiddly old press button on the Cavalier Mk3 above the drivers seatbelt on the B pillar used to do.
It's there so that you can leave the sunroof or a window cracked open or dogs etc in the back without the alarm going off.
Rusty - can you show where is says that as I previously had '94, '95 & '96 Omegas from new and it was as I've described above. Now I've come back to a '98 its exactly as I recall.

I've got most user manuals here, all describe the operation the same - its to disable ultrasonic sensors, leaving just a perimetric system active

But you haven't got Rustym95s book Jaime ;)

TB,
Can you select / program different options on the Alarm using Tech2 ? I know that with my Sigma programmer that there are often "hidden" and unconfigured options on many alarm systems -- just didn`t know if you were able to view anything extra as well ?
:-?

I have a 94 manual, which covers 94/95 cars which use the same system...

Give the poor chap a break, he's made a genuine mistake/misunderstanding of the manual.....

I think I made the same assumption when I first got my 1994 Omega.
I don't have it any more but I have a sneaking suspicion that the early handbook (or possibly just the way the symbol is drawn on the switch) gives one the firm impression that pressing that switch will repel hunchbacks with a sonic barrage....

Agreed - the logo does look similar to an intruder running away in panic, rather than thinking I`ll break the window as the sensors are disabled
However, Rusty, in view of your actual concern for the Missus in the car, there are devices and aftermarket panic buttons available and it may well be worth doing a bit of research on a few of them for some peace of mind - however, the most cost effective of them has got to be a permanent live supply to the horn switch so that a quick blast with anyone in the car can attract some attention very quickly
;)
-
just looked in my manual and it says the button is to disable the sensors

Whats wrong with a bit of harmless micky taking :-?
If Rusty takes offence then I apologise.

well i tuck her into vauxhall yesterday and it's fixed now he read the vin number and my car was changed on requset by first owner to have a progressive alarm and panic button, so any way it is fixed now.

I must remember to fit a rear sunroof as it gets rather messy when launching small children skywards without the required hole in the roof :y

PMSL, couldn't you wire up the back seats so when the heated seat button is pressed 50,000v of instant quietness comes out instead?
