HIya.
I bought a new keyfob as the old one was totaly broken.
The pads on the buttons were breaking away and one of the switches flew apart. I fitted the old blade etc after checking that the chip was still in place. I then tried to initialise the key in the ignition as per instructions in hains and handbook. No luck at all. >:(
Iam having to lock up using the key. Is it poss that the chip has lost its way? or some thing more sinister i wonder.
Can anybody help please. :)

what kind of system is it? IR? do you have a receiver next to the sunroof dial?
-
You need to get the new one matched to the car using Tech2 - see TheBoy or any other forum Tech2 owner
Or you can get the original fob repaired for a tenner

GM ditched IR by 99, must be a pattern part?
Anywho, footloose -
1) If its IR (blob thing next to sunroof dial) make sure the new remote has working battery
2) If its not IR, you will need tech2 and a car pass to program it

No, looks genuine, maybe a new replacement someone bought? :-/

Hi, the car is a 2000 facelift model and the fob is integral with the key, Maybe the key will have to be reprogrammed
I dont real know It did work ok till i put the new fob onto the key.

Hi again just had a thought. can the fob be programmed using teck 2 if i send the key etc with the car pass to some one with a tech 2 or do's the car have to be there?

The new fob will have to be programmed to your car, you will need tech2 & the car pass, which has details of the car. Closest one to you is Brackley, drop TheBoy a PM, and check out his page for prices. Otherwise you will need to take it to a dealer.

Can't be done via post, the car must be present.

Ok thanks to everyone Ithink it will have to be a dealer.
I'll find out the cost on monday.
As i only have one key how much do you reckon a new one would cost.?

Since you already have the key, costs will be reduced, you will only need tech2 costs. Vx dealer prices vary considerably, anything from £25-90! Yup did hear someone got charged £90 for a key programming.
When you factor in petrol costs, if you want multiple keys programmed (make a spare) it might be worth the drive to Brackley (NN13)

If the switches are broken off new ones can be fitted easily

If you're in Swindon, Kevin Wood in Hampshire may be closest....
