I have had the car nearly 12 months, and today for some reason when I engaged reverse I got a beep from the back of the car. Made me jump WHAT THE opps!!. ;D
It did this for a couple of time, and then the beeping gets gradually faster, AH The parking sensors are working.
This leaves me with two questions:-
1 Why should it suddenly start working?
2 Was it a standard feature on a 2001 Facelift CD Estate?
All suggestion gratefully received

Only normal explanation would be that you have a loose contact somewhere between main device and power supply
-
Parking sensors were not standard on the CD specificaton, only on the Elite's from 'Y' plate onwards I seem to recall. As I've never seen parking sensors on pre 'Y' cars. But it was an option on the CD's. Do you have 4 small circles on the rear bumper? Those are the sensors.
However, your car could have been fitted with aftermarket sensors.
The factory fitted system beeps once when reverse is selected, and then kicks in when you are getting nearer things.
-
The sensors are two not four small circles, and yes it works like you describe for the factory fitted system
-
The factory fitted system came with four sensors, not two. So that must mean you've got an aftermarket system fitted.
-
CD spec never had reversing sensors fitted, sounds like you have an after market system fitted
-
There will probably be some scotchblocks under the boot carpet then......

Cheers Guys,
Had a quick looksee, the control box, and speaker are in the storage compartment to the offside in the trunk, with power seeming to be taken from the offside light cluster. So I presume the live is from the reversing light.
So an after market jobby that has just decided to work. Not for much longer it's getting on my pip :y

I like them - prevents bumper damage :y

I take your point Martin, perhaps I'll try to get used to it, mind you a bloody great towbar helps save bumpers. ;D

You will like this ......
I got a brand new company car last week, the parking sensors didn't work, far too sensitive, going off all the time when in reverse >:(
Booked it into the local dealer who looked it up on line and advised that they weren't factory fitted and (fair enough) referred me to the supplying dealer. The supplying dealer then sent the guy who fitted them all the way from Blackpool to Lincoln, he was here today for all of 15 mins and sorted it. His departing comment prior to a 4 hour drive back to Blackpool was "I really must test the next installation I do properly". That will teach him won't it, a lost day and a tank of fuel for nothing is a bit of a blow for a self employed installer isn't it.
Still, they work now - that's the main thing ...... :y
