Title: ignition fault

mates car did something weird,he started it up,he said it made a squeeling sound(like the alarm)so he tried turning it off,and yes,you guessed it,wouldnt go off,he was sitting with the keys in his hand car still running,i was thinking ignition switch,the plastic contacts bit on the back,but if anyone has any other ideas,it would be much appreciated

I have had that with a pre-engaged starter jamming while engaged on an old Range Rover.

Can't remember how I stopped it now ::)

Because it was coil & points ignition with a ballast resistor there was an extra contact on the starter that was live whenever the starter was engaged.

I can't imagine that would happen on the Omega though so not a very helpful reply really, sorry.

Try a fully charged battery ?
