Hi all,
Ok 1999 omega cd estate, electric headlight adjusters,
Came to change main beam bulbs for some new fabby dabby 55w 100% brighter than any other lol so package say and at £17 a pair they better be.
Now i find the reflector on o/s is really loose as to the point i'm sure nothing is holding it at all,
question is can you reclip it in? or is it a new headlight totally, still waiting for my egay manual, carrier pigeon last seen heading for english channel lol,
has anyone got a PDF they can mail me please of the headlight so i can see if it can be reclipped.
thanks in advance

The adjuster inside is broken. Your new manual will tell you to just replace the whole thing anyway.
The clear lens will come off if you're careful with a knife & gently ease/cut through the black goo holding it to the headlight itself. I managed to succesfully glue mine with an epoxy glue although others haven't been as successful.
-
You can get the front lens off by using a hot air gun/hair dryer to warm up the black goo that holds the lens on. Then you'll find the bits that was the adjuster will fall out of the lamp assembly so be carefull! You can try gluing the bits back together but in my experience that didn't work very well. A mate of mine fabricated some from steel. They won't break ;D

I've got an original albeit brittle but whole adjuster. I've asked a friend who owns a machine shop to cost up fabrication in Aluminium ;)

Took my lights apart a few weeks back to try to fix this problem, fixed one of the adjusters with a cable tie the other one could'nt be fixed so left it. Called in at VX to get price on new adjusters, dont sell them but would sell me a new light for about £260 each, just hope i dont run into anyone cos the insurance would proberbly wright off the car for the cost of 2 head lights and a bummper. :'(

mine are plastic glass/lens is this right? clear plastic, looked on egay and can get new clear lamps complete for £44 + £12 postage each.
can you remove the plastic or is it just glass ones?
just to add both my lights adjust up and down via switch and stay equal to each other, would this still be the case if adjusters were broke in one?

they are plastic lenses, egay one's are after market one's that have seen on there, if the motor has gone on one just have to rest them both seperate then should be at same place on both sides.
-
???? both my headlights adjust up and down level with each other so a miss why the adjusters may be gone,
-
sorry, broken light it would still be moving, so no just clip it in new one should be fine.
-
ok thanks will look at it at the weekend, does anyone else think their lights are naff ? my highbeam is excellent but dip beam is pretty poor even with new brighter bulbs.
-
its the same on all, get some night brakers they are better, also check the allignment, should be better then, :y
-
ok thanks will check how clean reflector is if i can get it out ok.
-
ok just take your time and it will be ok :y

i took my headlights apart put them in the oven and 200 for 7-10 mins and they will pull apart and then get them warm again and just push back together as for the broken parts mine were the same and i plastic welded them back together very easy to do the plastic welder looks like the tool used to soder wire but use it to slowly melt the plastic back were it is broke and i will hold like new

well thought i had dropped on a bargain yesterday, went to local scrappy and found a saloon with new hella gm clear lights in, well impressed at £40 for the pair including motors, bulbs etc,
took rubber boots off and cool no movement in either so brought them,
got home and changed new brighter bulbs into them and bang n/s must have been just holding on the adjuster, damm it, so then set about having to strip new lens off and tried to super glue the adjuster but it would not hold, so put bck together as needed car for work, only moving a tiny fraction now, when i get more time i will strip again and plastic weld the adjuster this time.
things are not always a bargain as if it it don't work then i will just have to but a new matched pair of lights,
on that does anyone know where i can get lexus front lights for it? may be same or cheaper compared to new ones.
-
i did a temp fix with a glue stick think it is still holding did it a year ago on mate car, just heat the glue stick with lighter and put on the crack it pushed its self back together and stuck, could try that but no bet's on it lasting.
-
thanks for that, i have a spare set of lights disassembled now so going to look at making a solid ally block threaded to take the adjuster bar then somehow fix the socket for fixing the lamp side to it,
when i can stay in my workshop without heat lol
:D
