Title: Car with Spanner Light
Post by: davidwb on 11 January 2010, 13:17:51
Hi

Can anyone help, I am driving a 2002 2.2 CDX Auto and the car with spanner light comes on when driving. It goes off once the car has been restarted and will not come on again straight away but one or two days later. A new TPS Sensor has just been fitted because of the code that was displayed, but now the garage say there are no codes to display when checking but the light still comes on. The car is running ok, could this just be one of them things, is this a common problem or should I get it back in the garage.
Any info would be very helpful.
Thanks

Where are you based? Sounds like the person who looked before is one not to use again.

I am in Warrington and the garage is Black Diamond Ltd.

They said they have reset all codes, they also replaced the ignition coil and 4 new spark plugs.

They said that Vauxhalls have always displayed that car with spanner light even when there is nothing wrong, is this correct.

Thanks

That is utter rubbish!!!

So they are randomly changing parts, at your expense, guessing at the fault?  Disgusting.

Come on OOFers, we got anyone with a code reader near Warrington?  This new member obviously requires help, as the garage he is using is poor  >:(

Agree with TB, complete bo11ox. The spanner light is the EML (engine management light) and will only light when there is a fault. I'd try and find someone else, maybe a member here with a code reader, to check the codes for you.

The garage seem to be getting fed up with me because they don't know what they are doing I think. Will the codes need to be read when the light is on as it is very random when it comes on.

I have been driving very slow in the snow this last week and the light as not come on as much, went to work on the motorway today and the light came on all the way.

Thanks

Could the reason for a lack of codes be because the garage are using a basic code reader and not a Tech2 ?

 :-?

It should store the codes so they can be read even if the light has gone off.

Have you noticed an increase in fuel consumption?

Could well be, a lot of the cheapo's can't pick up the full range like the gearbox ECU for example.

Mine comes on occasionally. Stays on 3 or 4 miles then goes off again. No difference in the car at all in the way it drives. Only happens rarely too.

got your pm, and seen this.

I may be able to have a quick code / live data check for you.

Im no mechanic, so unlikely to fix anything, but can hopefully get it going in the right direction.
