Press the rear fog button and the rear fog light symbol on the dash comes on but the rear fog lights do not.
Both bulbs in the boot lid under the reversing lights look fine as the filaments look visibly intact....thinking about it i havent metered it for a 12v though, probably should have done.

Missing damaged blue/black link wire missing from the towbar connector? :-/
Or IIRC someone else had a damaged wire where the loom is clipped to the boot hinge. :-/

Seem to recall a previous thread many moons ago about a broken wire near the boot hinge, but can`t remember which forum that was on, so may not be Omega I`m thinking of?

The link wire cured my problem

The wires regularly break near the passenger boot hinge, I've got an earth wire borken in mine, it's just twisted together with some insulting tape on it. I must get round to soldering it ;D ;D
-
i did have a very quick look at the loom by the hinge in the failing light. Didnt see anything obvious esp in the tightest bend.
I'm also fairly sure they did work once in my ownership as they said "stick a fog light bulb in it" after it passed the mot, but it wasnt mentioned at the mot prior to. Sure i've seen them working but i've buggered about with all that area when fitting lpg and tow bar although i've not sorted the tow bar electrics yet, i didnt see any wire in the tow bar connecter? if thats what you guys mean by the link wire? i have fitted the bulb in the dash for tow bar in preperation if thats relevant?
-
Mine had a couple of breaks - if you are lucky the hinge is easiest to repair

thanks guys,i'll have look in the morning. Ta

The fog light wire loops through the towbar pre-wiring connector. A set of contacts break this connection when a connector is inserted, the idea being that the circuit is then made via a set of contacts in the 12p connector, and broken when a trailer is plugged in.
I would start by verifying that you have 12v on both sides of this contact at the pre-wiring connector. If so, likely a wire failure by the boot hinge.

..... in the 12p connector ......
Mmmm? :-/ :-/ Is this a new type of plug? :-/
Most of us use 12N & 12S and others use a 13 pin! :y :y :y

is Kev refering to the black and purple plug on the car loom in the boot behind the panel surrounding the boot latch?

N? P? both in roughly the same part of the alphabet. :-[
Yes, I meant 12N. I blame studying electronics for getting my Ns and Ps fuddled. ::)

Other than being able to identify some components I know sod all about electronics apart from some transistors are NPN and some are PNP and to tell them apart by 'not pointing in! ;D ;D ;D

i too have no rear fogs even thou i repaired the brocken wires by hinge ,whats this connector block your on about for towing hitch electricks is it behind the plastick trim in boot were it locks back panel as the panel is loose!think someone has been in there lately

Yes! :y The OEM loom uses 8 wires for the 12N electrics, but the blue/black fog light wire goes to a normally closed switch inside the towing socket & back to the car so that it can turn the car's fog lights off when you plug your caravan/trailer into the car. Until a towbar loom is plugged in, the blu/black wire lis looped out at the socket so that you have working rear fogs on your car.

cheers andy will have a look tomorrow :y

I`ve just had a similar problem on my Subaru with no fogs, and that turned out to be a stuck plastic pin inside the socket itself - cleaned and greased it up and everything now ok, so this socket fault may be quite widespread, not just an Omega issue.

like this Dave? Bastid thing, this is the tow bar electrics plug on the car loom, presumably designed to plug into the vx tow bar electrics kit, all plug and play, or it would be if they still bloody made it.
The two spring pins coming in from the side are contacting the pins that correspond to black with blue stripe wires to fog lites.
Looks like the idea is that these spring pins are forced away when the plug is pushed in,looks like it would work well except the fact that they have a further section deep in the plug that holds them away without the plug anyway, they are either bent or off centre as they serm to rub on the side of their recess.
I fiddled with them and lubed and wiggled them but could not get consistant contact, so i bent the fog pins over a fraction to meet them and it does seem to contact ok now.
Loom by the hinge is fine. Thanks for your help though, i would have spent a lot more time looking for the fault without your input.
Cheers

well i fixed mine eventualy some prat i could not believe had cut off the proper plug of the towing electricks and had butcherd the origanel wiring ,spliced into car electricks found the towing electrick plug hidden in back panel, bloody prats, well went to scrappy got the proper plug all wired up and bingo all works aok :y

No, the pin I refer to is on the actual towbar socket that is external to the car. As the trailer plug is inserted a small plastic pin makes/breaks some contacts inside to route the foglights accordingly. Mine had jammed inwards meaning that the fogs on the car did not revert to correct operation when trailer socket removed.

Same set-up as a OEM GM 8 wire 12N socket! :y :y :y

My rear fog lights don't work either - an estate with no towbar... :-/

worth checking that plug imo, if your car has it, not sure if its on the whole range, i have a tow bar, but the electrics have not been connected up yet.

Those bottom two pins are the fog light circuit and yes, those spring pins should make contact to complete the circuit when towing electrics not fitted. :y

Prefacelift cars are different though. They have a plug with a loop of blue/black wire to make the circuit. ;)

i should emagine if your not to botherd about a fog light on trailer just connect the two black/blue wires together you will have fogs on the car again
