So today I was driving along the highway happily for 40mins at 130km/h then when I pulled off the exit ramp and merged onto the next main road the TC light came on, suddenly the engine light came on, and the car wouldnt start...
Coasted to the side of the road and parked, started crawling around the car to figure it out.. eventually deducted it must be a fuse, so checked all in the engine area,,
When looking in the box above the batter (1998 prefacelift).. I found the the number 4 fuse from right, had a 30 in it not the 80 all the others had, and it was the one that blew.. having no spare fuses I took the first fuse and shoved it into the spot for the number 4 fuse and got the car to start... This meant for the 4km limp into town I had no dash displays or anything but It got me home.. Now cant for the life of me find a 80 fuse anywhere,, nowhere seems to stock them..
But my question is, what does each of those fuses above the battery control? does anyone have a diagram, cause I have searched all my stuff and cant find anything..
Much appreciated..

Thanks, but no its not what Im after..
there is a small box sitting on top of the battery with 5 fuses in it.. My haynes manual refers to it but doesnt say what they each are.. and the owners manual just states:
"The electircal system is protected by 6 main fuses in the main fuse box 1 above the battery." (Page 181 Vauxhall owners manual)

Perhaps it is...
Of the 5 fuses shown in the 3.0 litre diagram, which has blown? If you could identify which then perhaps someone (I'm off out...) could identify from the wiring diagram its value and purpose.... ;)

The one that blew that stopped the car is the fourth fuse from the right in the picture.. (page 181).. and to get the car running I took the first fuse from the right..
Im assuming the 1st fuse is for the interior electrics, dashboard etc.. as all these were off when fuse was removed... which i'm also guessing would explain how the engine got so hot in the 4km it was gone... as without the electrics reading temp in the engine the thermostat wasnt opening.. ???

Not electronically controlled, opens/shuts dependent on water temp

the one you took out would have operated the electric cooling fans :y or the switch that operates the fans :y

the five fuses control as follows, these are in no order.1between battery and ingition switch.two.betweenbattery and fuses 5,12,17,24,33. three between battery to fuses 1,6,7,18,20,25,27,29, sorry the light is to bad and the diagram is so small i carnt read where they go until the morning, :y

try these- http://www.crutchfield.com/S-2WwIhLHxjsE/p_575CPP80X/Rockford-Fosgate-80-amp-fuse.html 80amp fuse clear or http://www.crutchfield.com/app/product/search/searchresults.aspx?SearchTab=Shop&us=2&search=80amp&x=35&y=14 for part list in 80amp in $ :y

I've got both 30 and 80 amp fuses here if you need one but make sure of the size and I'll ship you one over :y
-
thanks Welung666.. Im assuming its meant to take an 80amp fuse, as when I put a 40amp in the spot originally the car blew it straight away just turning over..
But I cant find any literature to confirm it should be an 80amp..

Yes, but isn't the engine water temp be read by an electronic sensor?

thanks.. I guess I need 80's though? no one seems to be able to tell me if a 30 should have been in the place it was, or if someone before me had put a wrong fuse in there and it should be 80amp
It will be off to a Auto Electrician on Wednesday as Im working both Monday and Tuesday.. So I will update with what was wrong then..
I wont ask for fuses to be sent as I doubt they would make it here before Wednesday...
