I've read thruogh alot of alarm threads on this forum and realised i have never heard any alarm action in my 94 Omega mv6. I tried it out the other day by popping the hood with the lever in the car only. I then armed the alarm by pushing both the buttons on the IR remote. I then opened the hood and the alarm is obviously working because the indicators started flashing. No audible alarm though. I then removed the wiper arm and the scuttle and found the alarm horn witch had obviously been drowned in water from the hole in the scuttle. Have ordered a new horn. Found no trace of a powersounder though. No extra connections either. anyone know if the early models may not have had a powersounder?

No, only those with alarm.
So not on GLS, not on some limited edition base models, not on Police spec (which yours will be, seeing as MV6 wasn't released retail until 1998)

hmmm, reread post, so you have alarm, then, but no PS?
Not seen that myself, assuming nobody has removed already? Posible the older alarm system (94 and 95) didn't have PS...

Its a original mv6. Should have mentioned i come from norway and this is Opel not Vauxhall. Its lefthand drive and mv6 was available here from 94 to 98 or somtheing i think.

Ah, right. Sorry, not sure on Opel specs.

Iv'e got a '96 GLS, and that's got an alarm and powersounder, so guess it might be the earlier models with 'ir' remotes rather than radio that weren't fitted with powersounders?? :-/

Older IR alarm does not have the same problematic powersounder as the later RF ones

I've read somewhere that power sounder was only on UK spec cars (to meet Thatcham requirements).

I was under the impression that the "Thatcham" (MIRRC) regulations were to comply with EU directives, not just UK
