Can anyone please explain the problems with replacing HU with aftermarket one.
I would like a good 7" screen dvd satnav bluetooth unit but I have Bose in my elite.
I would have thought that the HU output would go to the Bose amp under the back shelf and then to all speakers.
So why can't the new HU outputs go to the Bose amp?
Am I missing something?
I'm scratching my balding head over this and it's beginning to hurt.
Thanks in advance

Bose speakers & Amp are 2Ohm, not 4Ohm, any replacement headunit will need Bose speakers & amp removed and replaced.
-
ok so the output impedance won't match.
Cant you just replace the bose amp with a 4 Ohm one and replace the speakers with 4 ohm ones and use the existing wiring?
-
err pass, Dave DND is your man, but i believe loom needs to be replaced too

yup

Should add those double din screens in facelifts are pretty unsuccessful, due to being too low to be useful.
But if you have your heart set on one, but a decent one, not one of the excessively crappy, cheap, unreliable unbranded/no-name junk being sold on ebay for less than £400.

I changed my HU to a Sony. The AMP had already been removed before i got her and the rear speakers rewired. ((Rear door speakers don't work)
The large BOSE speakers on the rear shelf seem fine BUT I had to replace the ones in the front doors....they were starting to fail big time.
Wiring wise...left as was.

Yes - By far the most viable way around it.

Many thanks to everyone for their help. Will need to ponder long and hard and inspect the piggy bank.
Having said that I do dislike a phone cradle ans a sat nav cradle adorning the dash. The thought of a neat layout is very tempting.
Thanks

Bluetooth through the radio is a godsend not least because my daughter can sit in the back and bluetooth her music through the car stereo...keeps her happy. My music isn't quite what she's in too.

I know this isnt possible because it would be common practice, but why cant you just put a 2ohm resistor in series with the speaker?? 2 ohm speaker + 2 ohm resistor = 4ohm load??? Explain.
-
Theoretically yes, you are correct
However, it would sound absolutely S@*% !!!
::)
Do it properly and replace the poor 2 Ohm speakers with something respectable.

Greetings and salutations.
I would like to ask in this topic instead of creating a new one. I am also trying to change head unit on BOSE system with something better. I was googling for something and I have found some adapter from SCOSCHE which should be designed right for lowering signal from standart unit to BOSE amp. As I am no expert in this, I would like to ask if this can work? Or is it possible to use other headunit from newer BOSE equiped GM cars?

I have heard of people modifying the Porsche /BOSE adaptor with varying amounts of success, but generally speaking BOSE/OMEGA differs from BOSE/OTHER. Generally ends up the same way though, by ripping out and replacing stuff in the end.
Curious.
What head unit did you have in mind from a later Vx car then?
:-?
-
That is bad :( The sound is OK for me and I dont have time and experience to change all stuff. I just need the possibility to play CDs at least. Video/nav/bluetooth will be nice bonus... Why it has to be different :-[
Honestly, I didn't have any head unit in mind :) I wanted to know if it is possible before I will look for some (so I will know the parameters needed) :)

What was originally fitted is about as far as you can go when BOSE is involved.
:'(

That is not good :(
So nothing like this:
http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/25/bose-offering-full-function-head-unit-with-retro-style/
or this:
http://www.autotoys.com/x/product.php?productid=2678
will help me?
Or if I will have to stay with current head (CCRT2007) what CD changer can I fit?

Top one is for a Cadillac, and second one is listed for a Camaro ? Would suggest to look at a VAUXHALL/OPEL OMEGA solution instead of trawling the US sites for anything else made by GM.
CCRT700 uses a dedicated style changer, CDC3 or CDC2 but both have to be configured specially for use with that stereo.
-
Oh no :(
I just put those as example what I ment by newer GM products (those were the first I have found in quick search).
So the best solution now would be to buy another head from BOSE equiped Omega? Or are there also some limits/complications? :)

Due to having BOSE, and the CCRT system, there are quite a few complications with configurations and wiring etc.
What is wrong with your current setup that is prompting you to want to change? What are you hoping to achieve?
-
I wish I didn“t ask about this :) The ignorance is bliss :) So much problems...
The main thing I would like to achieve is the ability to play CD because I do not have possibility to record cassettes anymore :)
The second thing is I would like to have some graphic display or navi in car, but that is not so important.

Have a look at this link
http://www.dndservices.co.uk/Vauxhall-CDC2-omega-code.html
as it will give all the numbers of the changer you are looking for. Be carefull though, as other CDC2 models with slightly different part numbers are NOT compatable with the CCRT700, and should you locate one without a code, then the above link will also help

Thanks a lot. I will check it, but I have CCRT2007, not CCRT700, does the same conditions you mentioned apply?

Ah! my mistake then, assumed the CCRT700 -
Sorry, cannot offer any advice on the CCRT2007, as I was unawares that it was fitted to Vauxhall !!
-
I have this one:

Nevermind the dash, it is prefacelift MV6 Omega fitted with facelift dash (I bought it like this)
-
Ah! in the UK that is fitted to other models, not the Omega - only ever seen it in the Astra.
Others will correct me, but I think the CCRT2008 is a straight swap ?
:-?
