Title: Flashing alarm LED

Hi all....

help needed please  ....

I wish to fit a flashing LED light to my facelift 2003 omega.... so to deter those naughty people ...

has anyone fitted one and where is the best place to fit one and where to get the best power source ???

Ie you remove the keys and it starts flashing???

I would buy the original alarm switch and wire it up behind the dash to illuminate the LED

Me too as most peolple know what they look like anyway. Anything else may look trashy

Look for a standard RED flashing LED, as that is what the alarm guys use mostly, they seldom use green, blue or any other colours, so if you want it to look like an alarm, keep it simple.

You can buy a 12V flashing LED for a couple of quid, and make sure that you fit it somewhere near the stereo or dash panel, as these are generally the first places people glance inside, and also where the alarms fitters choose to locate them.

Your LED will probably have a red and a black wire.

Connect the red wire to a supply that is permanently live, and connect the black wire to a supply that is only live when the ignition is switched on, and that way when the keys are taken out the LED will start to flash.

Ignition and permanent feeds can be found at the rear of the stereo amongst other places

Looking at the link Dave posted they are what CPC/Farnell sell for .99p

Maplins may also sell them.

Putting an LED up there would not look like a professional fit and would defeat the whole point of doing it.

done this one myself and it's a tricky bugger :) doable, but patience is required  ;D

the 'earth' of the led is on the botton pin of the relay. It's the only one i could test that works. live when on, earth when off etc.

It's under the steering column, you can see part of the diagnostic socket  ;)

Take the ashtray out and route the wires behind and up the steering colum. fiddly but easy.
I've got loads of flashing blue/red alarm LED's if anyone wants one. PM an address and i'll post one to you free. They look the nuts and are realy bright. (it was cheaper to buy in bulk)  ;D

But MEGA BRIGHT ones are not used in the alarm world !!

Are you simply after a flashing light, or something that looks like a genuine alarm?

Both wires required are at the rear of the stereo - dead easy run !!

I`ve already described what to connect to, but you will need to use your multimeter / voltmeter to check any cables before connecting anything electrical

Will have to get a meter to see which stereo wires they are unless someone knows which colours i need to connect my red and black wires to !
