hi, simple enough i imagine. have got after market jvc head and know got sub enclosure in boot. i need to buy amp but on checking rear of head there is't any extra outputs just wiring into loom.i figureif i get cdr500 in car there isoutputs needed for amp. im sure this is simple but i never done this before any advise on fitting amp and sub and does cdr500 havewhat i need...help an amateur :'(

Better off just changing the headunit and speakers. Subs not really required, unless your other car is a Corsa....
-
i think you will find it easer to get another after market head unit as even if the cdr500 has amp outs ( they will be for a bose amp so no good anyway ) you wont have the wiring in your car to get the feeds to the amp anyway . so i think you will be better off with new head unit and run your own cables to the amp . sorry for bursting your bubble :-/

fair point, new job means i'm doing about seven hundred mile a week know and the stereo quality has suddenly jumped up the priority list. thought mr osbourne would sound better with stereo upgrade ;D

That is so wrong !!

A sub can make a hell of a lot of difference to the sound by adding a little warmth and some lower frequencies. Do not categorise those wanting to improve the sound with the chavs who go over the top giving bass at the expense of everything else.
Not sure what amp you have, but if it does not have high level inputs that can be connected to the rear speakers, try one of these which are suitable for the high power output of your JVC head unit

cdr500 isn't bose compatible either. Its just generally and all-round naff HU, with nothing going for it. It plays audio CDs, a below-par radio, and poor output stage. Yet they fetch good money on egay - nearly bought a load of them yesterday to stick on ebay ::)
-
In fact this may also be worth a look as it has speaker inputs built in, and at the bottom of the link is the sub that is designed to go with it

Maybe you misunderstood me :P
Replacing HU and changing the existing speakers would be more worthwhile than messing around with cdr500, trying to get a modest amp working, retaining existing Vauxhall speakers, and shoving in subs to overcome defficiencies of the Vauxhall speakers.
That is what I would do if it wasn't for me being so anal about retaining some kind of GM look :-[
Beyond that, yes, there is another step up of better amps and fitting subs to bring extra life to the music (and lets not forget higher frequencies either - though quality speakers go a long way to help here already imho (maybe because I'm tone deaf!!)).
I suspect from the original post that the OP wanted to do this on a tightish budget, so I maintain that a better HU with quality speakers would be the better way to spend limited cash....
...unless his other car is a Corsa, and sound quality doesn't matter as much as the db pumped out by an overbassed sub ::)

CDR500`s are indeed fetching silliy money at the moment. There is a definate trend at the moment to going back to OEM head units, probably because most of the CD players available at the moment are all around the £50 mark and are absolute crap - only other ones are the chinese fleabay monitor stuff and they are no better. So many people have now been financially stung by this junk that they are now going back to the original models as they know they are good.
A lot of the brands are building cheap stuff now under customer pressure, Kenwood, Pioneer etc, it isn`t what it was, Blaupunkt was recently sold off by Bosch who wanted to distance itself from what was once a quality brand, and Sony are pulling out of In Car shortly.
Clarion are still one of the good brands and have never compromised their build quailty to become financially appealing. Pay a premium, get a quality unit

My bad - should have quoted part of the message :-[
It was the sub bit I was in disagreement with - subs always worth installing.
But change of speakers (with or without amp) are essential, (even if retaining the original head unit) as those paper cone things are rubbish

Just to fill in a bit here;
If you want a decent sounding, decent looking head unit which is compatible with info display and steering controls I'd go with Alpine. They have quite a few units that supports this. You only need an adaptor/interface cable to hook it up.
I have such a unit myself, but missing the interface though (noone supplies it in Norway) >:(
(But whatever you do, never put a Pioneer HU in your car ;) )
-
I have an alpine :y
An old one, but excellent none the less.

Do you know the make and model number of the interface you are looking for?
:-?
-
Ah, there he is :)
It's for a CDA9886 (in 95 Omega). The dealer here doesn't care about accessories :(
(this wasn't my thread though)

I`ll give Alpine a yell in the morning and see what I can come up with for you
