Title: Floating fuel guage!!!
Post by: Sixstring on 27 May 2010, 19:00:59
Has anybody else had this problem?

My cars TEMPERATURE guage rises and falls as you drive along!  When you brake, it generally drops down to nowt, and when you accellerate, it rises to normal temp.

good eh?

Comments appreciated!!     (3.0 Elite estate 1999)

Thanks.       Mike. :y

(yes, I know it says Fuel guage now, just don't know how to change it on the title..............)

Loose connection on gauge sender, moving about as engine/car moves about??

And before you ask, that is a simple spade connector on top of the sensor housing at the rear of the engine, in the 'V' between the two banks. ;) ;)

Could also be lack of damping in the gauge or a bad ground connection at the rear end of the car (return current from brake lights interfering with it perhaps?)

Does it get influenced by the brake lights when stopped?

No, funnily enough, just gently goes up and down when driving along, drops when braking, but steadily rises as you pull away!

Thought I was seeing things when it first happened.....
gotta check the connection on the temp sensor later (the engine is hot at the mo....) but can't see it being anything else???

Ahh, it's the temperature gauge. :-[

I'd say look for a loose connection to the sensor, or a loose engine-to-chassis ground connection.
