Title: Boot release switch
Post by: swamp rat on 30 May 2010, 09:24:54
The switch inside the car to open the boot (saloon) does not work. It opens O.K. with key fob and the switch even illuminates when it is open. Is this just a faulty switch or could there be some other reason.

I would suggest it has to be switch or its associated wiring.  A meter should confirm.

I have a spare switch should you want me to make measurements....

Everything else works. Would a duff lock still open with the key fob button.

Thanks TB. I'll look at the switch first then.

yes but no power or the electric pin not working will not open.

Whether unlocked via fob or via switch, the very same ECU actuates the very same motor, which rules out motor and associated wiring

There is only one type with an electric boot release on Omegas (though the ECUs vary, the principle is the same). All other simply lock/unlock boot with central locking :y

m8's one the pin had gone and could open with key fob but not switch could hear it clicking, tuck it out and the shaft in the lock was bent, there was a dif of power from opening all doors to just opening the boot just 3volts dif, changed the lock and worked fine after that.

Have you tried holding switch in for 5 seconds. Instantaneous press will not release the boot

Yes, I've tried all these things. It's def a fault of some kind, probably switch, so I'll look there first.

live and learn. I have the opposite issue.. boot button works fine, remote fob button doesn't do anything - but then I think thats the button on the remote fubar'd. Painful when returning to the car with shopping to have to open car etc etc so looking to sort that

The switch inside the car (on the facelift model anyway) operates straight away.  It does NOT work with the ignition on or even with the key still in.  I was once informed by someone that pressing and holding the switch in for 4 seconds allows the boot to be opened, even with the ignition on - but this is incorrect

depends on the age of the car..

early ones operate straight away, providing no key inserted.
newer ones a long press opens at any time.

unless someone has played with the wiring to amend things  :y

Earlier facelifts:
Ign out, press button, instantly opens

Later facelifts:
Press and hold for 3s, irrespective of key...
