I (and I'm sure many others) have a pre-facelift elite with the CCRT 700 "BOSE" system. It's ok-ish, but quiet, and uninspiring. Apart from throwing all the speakers and everything else away, is there anything that can be done to improve the volume and sound of these units?
Is there a "mod" that can be done?
Pleased with it generally, and the phone function, so really don't want to change it to a din aftermarket thingy.

I would say there's something wrong with it. The CCRT 700 I have come across sound really good especially in the saloon ;)

Depends what you are used to
If you have only experienced the standard setup in the Omega, then yes, sounds as if something is wrong, as it should sound significantly better that the normal system.
However, if you have heard virtually any other modern sound system (or most cars other than Vauxhall), then yes, you are right, the BOSE system is indeed un-inspiring and truly awfull.

Used to have an infinity 500w system with 1500w sub in my last car, but didn't run it loud, just "quality", might have something to do with it, perhaps i'm just being picky.....
It's ok, with a nice subtle bass from the boot mounted sub, but not very "clear and crisp" and not very loud either, sounds like 7wpc max???
Am I expecting too much?

Many here will know of my absolute dislike of In Car BOSE systems - the system is simply just outdated and outclassed by modern technology.
In house stuff is pretty good,
:y
PA stuff is stunning,
:) :) :y
In Car ? . . . . Absolute trash !!
>:(

And is that system 20 years old, like the car stuff you are trying to compare it to?
:-?

Nah, about 5yo, but it was THE system at the time, and being a musician too, my ears are probably finer tuned to sound than most people's idea of sound quality.
I'm resigned to it now, its too much trouble to change/replace because its only 2 ohms, and all the rest of my kit from the old car was 4 ohms, and i had a saloon last time, and an estate now. nothing will really fit, and my 6"x9"s won't fit anywhere, and my sub will take up half the load space.........never mind.
thanks Dave. :(

A few years ago (3?), JBL had a range of In Car 2 Ohm speakers - I`ve never tried them on the Vauxhall BOSE amp, but it would certainly be worth a trawl on the net to see if you could still find a set, as I know most dealers got stuck with them !!
Certainly can`t be any worse than the speakers currently fitted (I know it worked well in the BOSE Honda) - and would be a definate improvement on the current Omega BOSE system - Any Oofers tried this one already?

Mike, feel free to bring along a record.... erm, I mean CD and see if it sounds any different in mine????????
I (as you know) am a youngster and like 'some' sound and I'm happy(ish) with the volume and bass that the standard setup gives. The only difference is (and I believe it's a lesser quality unit) I have a CDR500.
It is quite obvious that the Omega BOSE system is not exactly amazing, but I haven't owned a car of that age with a better 'standard' setup..... and that includes BMW's, Mercedes, Alfa Romeo's, and Jaguar's.

Good idea, Ross...... will bell you, mate.
mike.

Differences should be negligable, what the CDR500 lacks in audio quality, will be compensated by the fact that you are probaby running a better CD player source.
;)

Good on yer, mate.

I found even the standard setup on the Omega to be quality, mine was fantastic I thought. Best sound system in a car I've had so far though would be LOGIC 7 in a 730d that I had for a week before it got sold.

got the standard bose in my elite too. sounds as good as the one i listened to in an M3 beemer. Maybe yours has a fault or speakers / amp getting tired.
last car i had i ran a 2ohm stable amp using line level input to uprated speakers. and sounded stunning. just bypassed the bose amp.
might be an idea as most modern amps can run 2ohms. 8-)
