Title: Automatic Door Locking
Post by: oceansoul on 13 June 2010, 15:40:58
Ive just been reading the boot popper mod thread
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1155211091
and wondered if anyone has made an auto locking as the car starts moving.

I guess the brake pedal could be used to lock the doors (i.e. as soon as you step on the brakes the doors lock) but what about unlocking the doors when you reach your destination.

Anyone thought about this in depth?

The cars I have driven with this facility, a E class Merc most recently, seemed to work on a timer system as far as I could tell, and unlocking when reaching your destination was purely by pulling a door handle. ;) ;)

These systems drive me up the wall!

We're not (yet!) in a state where you instantly get carjacked if you don't drive round with the doors locked, so I can't see the need.

However, you could probably use the frequency of the road speed signal from the ABS ECU to trigger something that locks the doors at a given speed. The switch input from either the driver's side CL motor (which detects when the button is pressed to lock the car) or the driver's side key switch would be obvious candidates.

It is not carjackin that is the worry for women, but somebody jumping into your car when stationery to either mug, steal your handbag, or even to force you to drive elsewhere and rape! :o :o

Although these robberies, etc, are rare they do happen Kevin and for us it is just peace of mind to have the car locked when alone ;) ;)
