since i have the car the ashtray catches on the botom of the radio, since the lower right hand corner was loose, i decided to fix it. i undid all the grub screws and pulled it out, the bottom pinged out out a bit but the top would not. so i thought a bit about it and decided it needed more force. sigh.
it made a noise and hinged out quite far but still the top did not come away. i decided to give, up. i pushed it back in but it appers the bottom grub screws dont grab anything and now the radio has no power. i can operate everything from the wheel but not the unit, can this be fixed.
also my cd flap thing wont stay up, its not that much of a pain but it keeps flashing up on the trip computer about it and that annoys the crud out of me
please somebody help

You say the radio has no power yet you can operate it from the wheel controls :-?

it used to work, had light and i could press buttons, but now its dead, cant eject cds or use computer unless use the wheel buttons

Yup, you've made the classic mistake and ripped the facia off. Thats why you can get proper radio removal keys, to save wrecking the stereo ;)
The grub screws are only there for asthetics/security (depending on who you listen to), and serve no part in holding the radio in place.
I am guessing you have damaged the 4 plastic clips around the top, the 2 and the bottom, and the 2 held in with screws. Thats not easy to recover from I'm afraid.
To make matters even worse for you, your display is coded to the stereo, so you can't even simply replace the headunit for an identical one.

so thats it, i f**ked it..... yip all the plastic bits are broken. and there is no power to the face because i snapped the electrical connecter as well. how the hell do i fix this. on the plus side, i got to see why my cdc flap wont stay close and i know i can fix the broken item in work

If you can find another fascia (best of luck!) you can swap it over without the need to reprogram anything - the button faults you describe are classic of teh connector behind teh fascia PCB coming adrift - can often be recovered by resoldering carefully, and then its out with the araldite to reform the fascia lugs that you have broken off.

I've got a 2013 that the flap is missing and the cd cartridge is stuck but I think the facia is fine and I have the matching GID so it might be possible to make one good one from the two ;)

whats a cid, and if the face is fine, what you want for it
