Title: Replacement of park solenoid

Hi,

I have searched for any posts on this subject, but have drawn a blank.

I am suffering from the "locked in park" syndrome - the usual suspect (the brake pedal switch) has been replaced, but no cure.

The logical next step is to change the solenoid which activates the little yellow locking lever - but how to do this?

I can't readily see how the solenoid is retained in place.

All and any advice gratefully received.

Its located under the metal plate.

I have the same problem with mine and have bought a whole new gear lever assy (from a breaker) & will replace the whole lot. 5 pop rivets to drill out & replace.

I haven't got round to doing yet though as have been busy with other Mig activity.

In the meantime I'm just pressing down the yellow lever.

You might want to add a few details to your user name profile - location car model etc.  ::)

To change the solonoid the lever assembly has to come out anyway. As Robert says, drill out the rivets and turn it over, you'll see 2 x torx screws behind the solonoid. Swop it over and re-rivet the assembly back in :y

Hi Welung,

So, if I drill out the pop rivets, can I disconnect the lower joint from above or do I have to get under the car?

All I can see on my replacement assy is that there is a circular hole at the bottom end of the bar that presumably connects to something on the box itself.

Its just that I'd rather not get under the car if I can avoid it.

Have the lever in neutral and it lifts high enough to take out the split pin, you'll see it's obvious as soon as you lift the lever section out :y

I've just "almost" done this job.

I swapped the whole unit over as my "S" button was bald.

My original solenoid was pop riveted in, but the replacement assy had it screwed in.

I say almost as my rivet gun broke - so I need a new one. The solenoid works though.

One less job to do.  :y

Pain to strip everything out
Easy job
Pain to put it all back again
