Title: advice fit electric rearwindows?
Post by: russ b on 15 July 2010, 21:56:46
hi buying rear doors the weekend with electric rear as opposed to my manuals. i am presuming straight swap on doors and connecting extra switches and loom to centre console.
any known tips/problems or is it straight forward enough :y

That about sums it up :y.  All the loom should already be there (assuming doors come with loom, as that bit varies), just need switches by gearstick(prefacelift)/drivers door(facelift).

Hopefully doors come with doorcards, else you will ned them

did this on mine. if face lift you'll poss need drivers door loom as well. count the wires in to the switch on the drivers door. (cant remember the exact number, think it's 6 with out rears and 13 with). :-/ if they don't work once plugged in, double check that you've got a 30 amp maxi fuse in slot 35 in the fuse box under dash. (its the top right hand one). i over looked this minor detail and wasted hours of my life trying to figure out why nothing was working. ::)

Ditto, as above, did an ex plod last year, had to source a  drivers loom as well, you might be lucky with a Factory  spec GLS.

fuse there. will check connector on b post to make sure all the wires from the door are connected to all the wires in the loom. i am still prepared to direct feed switches as similar to fitting elite seats into lower spec if you catch my drift, but firstly does anyone know if there is a different or additional relay i:e relays from elite into gls...
by the way thank you baron those calipers have done the trick my car know stops!!

I can't help with the relay question but if you do have to wire them in could you do a how to (with or without pics) as this is something that i have to do on my old gls.
Thanks
Lee

the wiring diagrams in the fabled book of lies were actually quite helpful when i was working through mine. turns out the wiring colour codes on the face lift cars are the same as pre facelift, even if some of the plugs are different. :)
have you tried double locking the car with the remote (press the lock button on the key fob twice, holding it down on the second press for about 10 seconds. then open the car up, turn on the ignition and press and hold the close buttons on each of the window switches in turn. might reset the system. also is the rear window cut off switch set to allow the rear door switches to work?
hope this is all of use. :y

Make sure you ahev connected the switches on the centre console correctly, its been a while since i did this but I seem to recall there was an obvious error that could be made there.

If you have power and the console switches are set to green to allow the rear windows to be operated from the rear then you should see an LED backlight light on the rear switches.

What year were the donor doors made?

donor is r reg elite (from broomies mate) mine is v reg.
double checked the connections under gearstick and all seems well. the only bit that confused me was the smaller connection on each switch plug together? but no where else for them to connect.
have light illuminated on all switches at front but no light at rear. looks like i am gonna have to feed power to switches at rear door.

still suffering... ::)
have checked connection on b post and appears the problem is the loom going into the door from b post only has so many wires and the loom going into the door has more. it would seem my car loom does not have wire for rear windows. i am assuming i have got to feed power from switches in centre console to rear doors. can someone please explain how i do this as i am ignorant in this area, i have fed power to my new elite seats following tbs how2 is it along same principle? :'(
