my crystal ball is not working (no doubt too many beers)

What model is your radio? CDC Refers to the CD Cartridge which is stuck / broken, you don't need a code for this, its a mechanical issue  :y

Sounds like its got a ccrt700.  that is part of the gps system for the on-star functionality (never used in the UK)

You need a seperate code for the CD unit.

What makes you think the OPs CD unit is stuck/broken - maybe the beer  :)

I was in facelift mode, CDC Safe (implied with no code) on facelift units means the changer is knackered  :)

Not quite, it means the control board has corrupted itself, which is definately not a mechanical issue ;)
