Title: master light switch illumination
Post by: lightfj on 24 August 2010, 09:37:02

Does anyone have a photo of the back of the master light switch please?
The dashboard illumination light is hanging in free space and I cant feel the hole with my finger. Surely I won't have to remove the whole switch assembly to plug the little blighter back in.
Thanks in advance

Open the drivers door and pop the end plate off the dash. You should be able to reach it from there :y

I'll sort a picture Mate, no problem... From memory the bulb is located fairly centrally, but is recessed in, so I'd imagine it would be awkward to see. I'll find out the bulb type and wattage as-well so you can have one to hand when you do yours...

Hopefully my 1999 prefacelift will be the same as your facelift?

Bulb exists in a not quite square holder which just plugs into a hole. A small groove on the plastic holder makes it only fit one way.
Thanks

Here you go...

The bulb is 0.5w and you will need the type that come fixed into the holder, the bulb does not just pull out from the holder.

Is there some confusion here.  :-/ Surely this is the vent illumination bulb and can be reached as already described by Welung666.
It's holder will be on the end of a wire loom and just pushes in the end of the dash beside the vent when you have removed the end plate.
Fair play to Brikhead for the photo though as it is what the OP asked for. :y :y

;D Oh, You just need to plug in the bulb for the vent trim?
I did wonder how it could be swinging about!

No problem.
 :)
I'm guessing something must be broken on yours... the bulb holders usually just push back in.

I'll sort a picture for you in a while.

With the side panel off the dash, move the vent open/shut wheel and you'll see the wedge move. With the vent set to fully open the top of the wedge should be horizontal. Feel just inside the lip of the dash level with the top edge of the vent wedge and you'll feel the hole. Use the top edge of the vent wedge as a guide and slip the bulb back in :y

Hopefully the well written guide provided above will be enough.
I had a quick look in the car earlier but could only find the passenger side vent assembly, then I remembered that the storage area in the drivers side was broken... somebody had decided a large woodscrew was a good way to keep it closed, so I may have binned the plastics that were damaged.

If you are still struggling I could take a quick snap of the passenger side vent, it's the same sort of thing...

That's where the little blighter is!!
Job done. Many thanks to everyone. I just found the bulb on the cable floating in the breeze and I couldn't find where it should go. Now I know!
Thanks again
